MARCH (CHAIRMAN'S TROPHY) MEETING
Friday,  21 March 2008

 RACE 1:  INITIATION - 1600M

VICTORY FLAMES (R Stewart), POWER N WIN (App M Ewe) and LIANG KEE (D Beasley), which all broke through the front of the barriers, were quickly restrained and captured, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded.

COURAGEOUS HORSE (N Callow), which jumped awkwardly, made contact with ARBITRATOR (J Powell).

VICTORY FLAMES began awkwardly, shifted outwards and crowded LIANG KEE.

ARBITRATOR raced keenly in the early stages.

FAIRY STORY (Din Azis) raced greenly and was obliged to race wide throughout.

Approaching the 1000m, VICTORY FLAMES, which was racing keenly, had to be steadied off the heels of POWER N WIN.

Near the 300m, LIANG KEE and COURAGEOUS HORSE bumped.

Passing the 200m, FAIRY STORY hung outwards and in so doing, carried PAYBACK TIME (R Woodworth) wider on the track.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on FAIRY STORY which revealed no apparent abnormality.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that BIG WHEEL (M Kellady) returned with a wound on its off-fore.

 RACE 2:  RESTRICTED MAIDEN - 1200M

GUNONG MERAPI (S John) and GOLDEN LARKSPUR (M Gallagher) were both slow to begin.

SPARKLING WATER (App M Ewe), which began awkwardly, steadied away from the heels of BROSE (B Vorster) shortly after.

Approaching the 1000m, BROSE, which was racing greenly, steadied away from the heels of ZAC POWER (J Powell).

HARUNDSAN (J Saimee) was obliged to race wide throughout.

During the race, the bridle on BROSE shifted and placed its rider at a disadvantage throughout.

Near the 100m, BROSE laid inwards and crowded SWANK (N Callow). At the same time, Jockey Vorster, the rider of BROSE, accidentally dropped his whip.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on SWANK which revealed no apparent abnormality.

HARUNDSAN was impounded for routine veterinary and analytical examination. The Veterinary Surgeon reported no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 3:  CLASS 5 - 1400M

GOLDEN TIGER (App M Ewe), which began awkwardly and shifted outwards abruptly, then steadied away from the heels of FIFTH AVENUE (Din Azis), which was carried inwards by BENGAWAN (B Vorster), which in turn was carried inwards by LIM’S SWING (R Fradd).

FIFTH AVENUE was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, BONBON WIN (YF Leong) was crowded between MY DARLIN ANGEL (App SH Low), which shifted outwards and FASHION THUNDER (N Callow), which was carried inwards by JOE AND JAYZEECA (A Fiezan).

Near the 1000m, MY DARLING ANGEL steadied when crowded between WINNER CIRCLE (R Stewart) and FASHION THUNDER, which rolled inwards. Jockey Callow was subsequently shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.

Approaching the 700m, DARING MELLIFONT (App T Affandi), which was inclined to lay inwards, brushed the running rail on a couple of occasions.

Passing the 600m, BENGAWAN, which was hanging outwards, had to be steadied off the heels of JOE AND JAYZEECA.

BENGAWAN was held up and unable to improve its position between the 500m and the 400m.

Passing the 200m and over the concluding stages, LIM’S SWING was inclined to lay outwards under pressure.

Jockey E Legrix, the rider of SHAHINI, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormality.

WINNER CIRCLE was impounded for routine veterinary and analytical examination. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that the horse returned lame off-hind. WINNER CIRCLE will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being entered to race again.

 RACE 4:  GRADUATION - 1600M

DUSTIN (B Vorster) jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start, RISKY BUSINESS (Din Azis) got its head up whilst being steadied.

Approaching the 1400m, DUSTIN commenced to race keenly and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of RISKY BUSINESS.

CRISTOFORO (D Beasley) and CONQUER TIME (R Woodworth) were both inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages.

Near the 300m, RISKY BUSINESS had to be taken outwards across the heels of CRISTOFORO to obtain a clear run.

Shortly after passing the 100m, ACE ARRIBA (J Saimee), laid inwards obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Jockey J Powell, the rider of GO FOR IT, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A
subsequent veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 5:  KRANJI STAKES C - 1800M

EXCHEQUER (A Fiezan) and BLACK JAMBHALA (Din Azis) were both slow to begin.

ZOID (B Vorster) commenced to overrace in the middle stages.

BIG VALOUR (R Fradd) was obliged to race wide throughout.

Jockey Azis, the rider of BLACK JAMBHALA, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed that the horse returned lame near-fore. BLACK JAMBHALA will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being entered to race again.

ACE CELEBRATIONS (N Callow) was impounded for routine veterinary and analytical examination. The Veterinary Surgeon reported no apparent abnormality.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that SEACUCUMBER (S John) returned lame near-fore. SEACUCUMBER will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being entered to race again.

 RACE 6:  CHAIRMAN'S TROPHY - 1800M

ONCEUPONATIME (D Beasley) raced fiercely in the early stages and proved difficult to settle.

CHEVRON (J Saimee) was impounded for routine veterinary and analytical examination. The Veterinary Surgeon reported no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 7:  CLASS 4 - 1200M

POSTMAN TALES (M Au) lost ground after beginning awkwardly and raced wide from the 1000m.

Near the 1000m, IT’S TERRIFIC (App M Ewe) checked when racing between TRICKY MASTER (A Fiezan) and PERFECT SKY (R Woodworth). An Inquiry into this incident will be held at a date to be fixed.

Passing the 400m, IT’S TERRIFIC was disappointed for a run to the outside of POSTMAN TALES, which rolled outwards. Shortly after, when attempting a run to the inside of POSTMAN TALES, IT’S TERRIFIC had to be checked when POSTMAN TALES shifted inwards abruptly after being struck with the whip.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on POSTMAN TALES which revealed that the horse returned as a roarer. POSTMAN TALES will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being entered to race again.

 RACE 8:  BENCHMARK 83 - 1400M

Acting on veterinary advice that ACE EMPEROR (YF Leong) was found to be lame near-fore, the Race Meeting Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 1724Hrs. In terms of MRA Regulation 24.2, it must be presented to an Official Veterinary Surgeon prior to being declared to race again.

STEALTH (J Powell) fly-jumped, made contact with KAKUREI (R Woodworth) and then shifted inwards carrying ROYAL COMMANDER (N Callow) in onto SUPERB CHALLENGE (App M Ewe), which was crowded and lost ground.

PACKET EXPRESS (A Fiezan) raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

SUPERB CHALLENGE was impounded for routine veterinary and analytical examination. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that the horse returned having cast its near-fore plate and also lame near-fore. SUPERB CHALLENGE will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being entered to race again.

 RACE 9:  BENCHMARK 97 - 1200M

Acting on veterinary advice that EMPEROR COMMANDS (D Chee) was found to be lame near-fore, the Race Meeting Stewards ordered its withdrawal. In terms of MRA Regulation 24.2, it must be presented to an Official Veterinary Surgeon prior to being declared to race again.

MUSHROOM (R Woodworth) and TAURUS (App T Affandi) were both slow to begin.

SATURDAY, 15 MARCH 2008:

RACE 1

On Wednesday, 19 March 2008, the Stewards concluded an Inquiry into the reasons for DESERT ROSE (R Stewart) having to check near the 1000m when racing to the inside of SIR NORTH (App M Razali). It was established that approaching the 1000m, SIR NORTH laid inwards and commenced to crowd DESERT ROSE. Despite the efforts of its rider, SIR NORTH continued to lay inwards and away from SKY STONE (R Woodworth), thereby continuing to crowd DESERT ROSE, which had to be eased and lost ground. In the circumstances, no blame could be attributed to any rider and as such, no further action was taken.

RACE 6
At the conclusion of an Inquiry on Wednesday, 19 March 2008, App J Farook, the rider of LUCKY SEVEN, in the presence of his Master, Trainer S Chua, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(c) in that whilst riding in the sixth race at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Saturday, 15 March 2008, near the 1000m, he permitted his mount to shift inwards, when insufficiently clear of SWIFT ARROW (App KK Ng), thereby crowding SWIFT ARROW in onto CHIN-HO (App M Razali), which in turn was crowded in onto HALL OF FAME (App M Ewe), which checked and lost ground. MR BERGAMO (R Stewart), HUTTON (App J Low) and JUST FOR YOU (V Sivan), which were following, were also inconvenienced in consequence. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, guilty plea and the degree of interference and carelessness. App Farook was suspended from riding in races with effect from Sunday, 23 March 2008 to Sunday, 30 March 2008 both dates inclusive (five Race Days) and was advised of his Right of Appeal.

SINGAPORE MARCH MEETING 2008
SUNDAY, 16 MARCH 2008:

RACE 1

On Wednesday, 19 March 2008, the Stewards concluded an Inquiry into the reasons for KING AND KING (A Fiezan) having to check near the 250m when racing between FAST AS LIGHTNING (R Woodworth) and GALLERIA (R Fradd). It was established that near the 250m, GALLERIA, which was making ground, quickly shifted inwards abruptly when steadied off the heels of SHANGHAI KID (J Powell), which rolled outwards marginally. This resulted in KING AND KINGDOM, which was also inclined to hang, becoming crowded and eased. In the circumstances, no blame could be attributed to any rider and as such, no further action was taken.

RACE 5
On Wednesday, 19 March 2008, the Stewards concluded an Inquiry into the reasons for DOUBLE HAPPINESS (App HK Cheng) having to check near the 300m when racing between WORLD TOP (App KK Ng) and PIERCING (M Kellady). It was established that near the 300m, PIERCING rolled outwards marginally and made contact with DOUBLE HAPPINESS. This resulted in PIERCING being turned outwards and future crowding DOUBLE HAPPINESS, which had to be eased. In the circumstances, no blame could be attributed to any rider and as such, no further action was taken.
