OCTOBER (SAAS FEE STAKES) MEETING
Sunday,  16 October 2011

 RACE 1:  CLASS 5, DIV 1 - 1600M

STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN (V Duric) lost ground on jumping when bumped by CHENGDU WARRIOR (J Moreira), which was bumped outwards by RECIPROCATE (J Powell), which was in turn bumped outwards by AMERICAN TYCOON (S John), which began awkwardly.

SEACREST (App TH Koh) was crowded on jumping between ACE AMEIDA (KB Soo) and DAN NOBLE (YF Leong), which shifted outwards.

GOOD DAY (O Chavez) began awkwardly and lost ground.

ACE AMEIDA proved difficult to settle in the early and middle stages.

SEACREST and ACE AMEIDA both raced wide without cover throughout.

Approaching the 400m, DAN NOBLE was bumped when CHENGDU WARRIOR shifted outwards to improve.

Passing the 400m, TEMPEST (App HK Cheng) steadied when disappointed for a narrow run to the inside of AMERICAN TYCOON.

Near the 100m, OIL BARON (I Azhar) steadied when crowded between TEMPEST, which shifted outwards and MERLIN (D Beasley), which was carried inwards by CHENGDU WARRIOR. Jockey Moreira was subsequently shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.

Jockey Duric, the rider of STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 2:  INITIATION - 1200M

Acting on veterinary advice that ZEPPELIN (O Placais) was found to be lame off-fore, the Race Meeting Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 1319Hrs. In terms of MRA Regulation 24.2, it must be presented to an Official Veterinary Surgeon prior to being declared to race again.

GOLD PYRAMID (R Stewart), which was fractious and became cast, was taken out of the barrier and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. Acting on veterinary advice, the Race Meeting Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 1322Hrs. GOLD PYRAMID must requalify in an Official Race Trial prior to being entered to race again.

SS THE SPRINTER (J Verenzuela) and CARRE BLANC (J Saimee) bumped on jumping.

DRUMSARA (S John) began awkwardly and lost ground.

Near the 1000m, CARRE BLANC steadied when crowded between HEARTS (J Moreira), which shifted inwards whilst racing greenly and SWITCH DOUBLEMISTY (S Anandan), which shifted outwards abruptly away from FULL TOSS (V Duric).

MANLAI (M Kellady) and TAI COMMANDS (App SH Low) both raced wide without cover.

Passing the 300m, TAI COMMANDS was hampered when CARRE BLANC shifted outwards under pressure.

HEARTS lay inwards under pressure in the straight.

FULL TOSS raced greenly in the straight.

Approaching the 100m, SS THE SPRINTER, which was making ground, steadied and shifted outwards away from the heels of SWITCH DOUBLEMISTY.

The Farrier reported that HEARTS returned having cast its near-fore plate.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on SUPER NEW HAWK (V Sivan) which revealed no apparent abnormality. SUPER NEW HAWK, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being declared to race again.

HEARTS was impounded for routine veterinary and analytical examination. The Veterinary Surgeon reported no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 3:  CLASS 4 - 1000M (POLYTRACK)

WORLD FAMOUSMAN (V Sivan) began awkwardly and lost ground.

IMPERIAL QUEST (KB Soo) and GOOD BOSS (O Chavez) bumped on jumping.

IRISH LIGHTNING (B Vorster) blundered at the start.

FAT KING (M Zaki) and IMPERIAL QUEST both raced wide throughout.

Jockey S Anandan, the rider of HOONG WAN, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormality.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on CAIYAYA (J Moreira) which revealed no apparent abnormality.

Jockey J Verenzuela, the rider of YOYO, reported that the gelding made loud respiratory noises over the concluding stages and for this reason, he eased the horse down and dismounted upon pulling up. YOYO was impounded for routine veterinary and analytical examination. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that the horse exhibited signs of respiratory distress after the race. YOYO will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being declared to race again.

 RACE 4:  CLASS 5 - 1200M

FUKU ICHIBAN (H Samsir) was restless in the barrier causing its near-side ear muff to become damaged.

HOPEUDONMIND (B Tai) was slow to begin.

FUKI ICHIBAN began awkwardly losing ground.

EXCELLENT BEAUTY (S Anandan) and ABYSS (M Ewe) got their heads up whilst racing keenly in the middle stages.

Near the 900m, FUKU ICHIBAN got his head up whilst being restrained away from the heels of EXCELLENT BEAUTY.

MY NEW MAN (B Vorster) raced wide without cover throughout.

Near the 300m, EXCELLENT BEAUTY steadied when disappointed for a run between BULL SHOT (V Sivan) and MY NEW MAN.

An Inquiry into the running and riding of FUKU ICHIBAN will be held at a date to be fixed.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on FUKU ICHIBAN which revealed no apparent abnormality.

Jockey J Moreira, when questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BOLD ROB, stated that the gelding began well and settled just behind the leaders as anticipated. He further stated that BOLD ROB travelled well until placed under pressure from the 400m when it failed to run on. His explanation was noted. BOLD ROB was impounded for routine veterinary and analytical examination. The Veterinary Surgeon reported no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 5:  NOVICE - 1600M

TANGIBLE ASSETS (A Munro) was checked on jumping between FOREIGN EXCHANGE (J Saimee) and GOOD TOWKAY (App TH Koh), both of which shifted ground.

BOUNDLESS GLORY (M Kellady) jumped awkwardly inwards.

Shortly after the start, BUKIT ROSE WOOD (O Placais) was hampered when BORN TO FLY (S John) rolled outwards.

Near the 1400m, ANAK PIASAU (YF Leong), which was racing keenly, steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of DASH FOR WIN (R Stewart).

Passing the 900m, ANAK PIASAU steadied whilst racing tight to the inside of DASH FOR WIN, which laid inwards away from BUKIT ROSE WOOD.

ANAK PIASAU brushed the running rail passing the 700m.

BIEBER (V Duric) raced wide from the 800m.

For a short distance approaching the 400m, LINDT (B Vorster) had difficulty obtaining a clear run.

Near the 300m, BORN TO FLY and ITISWHATITIS (App R Shafiq) both steadied when crowded between BIEBER, which rolled inwards slightly and FOREIGN EXCHANGE, which was carried outwards by BOUNDLESS GLORY. Jockey Kellady was subsequently shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.

BIEBER laid inwards under pressure over the concluding stages.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that DRAGON BOY (J Moreira) bled. In terms of MRA Rule 92(3), it will not be permitted to canter or gallop on the main training tracks of any racecourse for a period of two months, and may not start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after having satisfactorily passed a bleeder’s test.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that SANDRA (KB Soo) returned with a cut on its off-hind.

 RACE 6:  BENCHMARK 61 - 1800M

MAX VELOCITY (App CS Chin) and SAMURAI HORNET (S John) were both slow to begin.

MY RACE (J Verenzuela) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 200m, DOMINANT FORCE (R Woodworth) was momentarily crowded between SACRED EMBLEM (I Azhar) and JOYFUL HEART MAN (B Vorster), which rolled inwards slightly.

Near the 100m, SAMURAI HORNET steadied and was taken outwards away from the heels of MY RACE, which laid inwards under pressure.

Following the running of Race 6, Jockey Verenzuela, the rider of MY RACE, was examined by the Course Medical Officer who declared him unfit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements.

 RACE 7:  MAIDEN - 1100M (POLYTRACK)

Permission was granted for Jockey V Sivan to replace Jockey V Duric on SILVER LEGEND as the latter was unable to make the weight. Jockey Duric was subsequently fined a sum of S$200 in terms of MRA Rule 107(9).

YARRADALE STAR (M Ewe) and SUPER OCEAN (O Placais) were both difficult to handle behind the barriers. Trainers H Takaoka and T Kieser were both advised that warnings have been placed on YARRADALE STAR and SUPER OCEAN respectively regarding their barrier manners and to take steps to improve them or action may be taken in future.

ACE ADALID (J Saimee) lost ground after the start after bumping heavily with SACRED SPRING (O Chavez).

WHYDOYOUASK (R Stewart) raced wide without cover throughout.

SILVER LEGEND laid inwards under pressure in the straight.

YARRADALE STAR laid inwards under pressure in the straight obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount on several occasions.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on SUPER OCEAN which revealed no apparent abnormality.

Jockey Saimee, when questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ACE ADALID, could offer no tangible explanation for today’s performance stating that the gelding did not travel well at any stage and disappointed with its failure to run on in the straight. His explanation was noted. ACE ADALID was impounded for routine veterinary and analytical examination. The Veterinary Surgeon reported no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 8:  KRANJI STAKES A - 1200M

LEGEND (App SH Low) began awkwardly and lost ground.

Shortly after the start, PERFECT PINS (J Saimee) and SUPER EASY (J Moreira) bumped.

CHEYENNE DANCER (A Munro) raced wide from the 800m.

Making the turn into the straight, SUPER EASY and CHEYENNE DANCER bumped when SUPER EASY shifted outwards to improve.

The Farrier reported that SUPER EASY returned having cast its off-fore and near- hind plates.

 RACE 9:  CLASS 5, DIV 2 - 1600M

Prior to the start, TAKESHI (R Woodworth) and FORMIDABLE QUEST (O Placais) were both examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race.

TAKESHI, which broke through the front of its barrier, was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. Acting on veterinary advice, the Race Meeting Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 1658Hrs. In terms of MRA Regulation 24.2, it must be presented to an Official Veterinary Surgeon prior to being declared to race again. Trainer D Koh was advised that a warning has been placed on TAKESHI regarding its barrier manners and to take steps to improve them or action may be taken in future.

SIMPLE MAN (O Chavez) which was fractious and became cast, was taken out of the barrier and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. Acting on veterinary advice, the Race Meeting Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 1658Hrs. In view of its previous record and as SIMPLE MAN is a repeat offender, it will be barred from racing or entering for a test trial for a period of one month, after which it must pass two consecutive starting stall tests.

GOLDEN LARK (V Sivan), which was drawn in the stall adjacent to SIMPLE MAN, was taken out, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded.

FORMIDABLE QUEST and KING OF LOTUS (I Azhar) bumped on jumping.

KNIGHT’S PARADISE (App TH Koh) was slow to begin.

An objection was lodged by Jockey Sivan, the rider of GOLDEN LARK, against LOOK AT ME (J Saimee), being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference over the final 100m. After reviewing the video replay of the race, the Race Meeting Stewards acceded to Jockey Sivan’s request to withdraw his objection. The result stood and Jockey Sivan’s deposit was forfeited.

Near the 50m, GOLDEN LARK checked whilst racing to the inside of LOOK AT ME. An Inquiry into this incident will be held at a date to be fixed.

Jockey Placais when question regarding the performance of FORMIDABLE QUEST, stated that shortly after the start, he became concerned with the gelding’s action and for this reason, he eased it out of the race. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormality. FORMIDABLE QUEST will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial from the barrier and a veterinary examination prior to being declared to race again.

Jockey D Beasley, the rider of WORLD FANTASY, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormality. WORLD FANTASY will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial from the barrier and a veterinary examination prior to being declared to race again.

 RACE 10:  SAAS FEE STAKES (SG3) - 1400M

SILVERON WINGS (I Azhar) was slow to begin.

DESERT LINKS (R Stewart), which was slow to begin, steadied shortly after when GHOZI (J Saimee) shifted inwards.

FLYING FULTON (O Placais) proved difficult to settle in the backstraight.

AROWANA DOT COM (J Moreira) raced wide without cover throughout.

Approaching the 400m, AROWANA DOT COM was hampered when BETTER BE THE ONE (V Duric) shifted outwards.

SMOKING JOE (A Munro) had difficulty obtaining a clear run in the early part of the straight.

Over the final 100m, GHOZI was unable to obtain a clear run.

CAPTAIN OBVIOUS (R Woodworth), GHOZI, ATO (B Vorster) and APACHE CROWN (M Kellady) all raced tight over the concluding stages.

Jockey Stewart, the rider of DESERT LINKS, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 11:  CLASS 3 - 1400M

Acting on veterinary advice that NO RESPITE (O Chavez) was found to be lame near-fore, the Race Meeting Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 1602Hrs. In terms of MRA Regulation 24.2, it must be presented to an Official Veterinary Surgeon prior to being declared to race again.

RAW COURAGE (V Sivan), which dislodged its rider enroute to its barrier, was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race.

LION CITY TYCOON (App J Farook) stood flat-footed losing considerable ground. In view of its previous record and as LION CITY TYCOON is a repeat offender, it will be barred from racing or entering for a test trial for a period of one month, after which it must pass two consecutive starting stall tests.

TANHA STRIKE (J Saimee) began awkwardly.

PEACEFUL WARRIOR (V Duric) shifted inwards under pressure in the straight.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on FUNCA (B Vorster).

 RACE 12:  GRADUATION - 1400M

Acting on veterinary advice that TZAR (B Vorster) was found to have an elevated temperature, the Race Meeting Stewards ordered its withdrawal. In terms of MRA Regulation 24.2, it must be presented to an Official Veterinary Surgeon prior to being declared to race again.

LEAVE ME ALONE (O Chavez) and BATTLE STAR (App CS Chin) were both slow to begin.

Passing the 1200m, DADDY COOL (App WL Tan) steadied away from the heels of RUSH (J Moreira), which rolled inwards.

Near the 200m, RUSH raced tight between SUPER GURU (Alan Ng), which shifted outwards and LEAVE ME ALONE, which laid inwards.

LEAVE ME ALONE and RUSH brushed on several occasions over the concluding stages.

RACE 6 [TF1294]
On Sunday, 16 October 2011, the Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reasons for ZAC COMMAND (O Placais) having to check whilst racing to the inside of WHYDOYOUASK (E Aslam) and NATURALBORNFIGHTER (A Munro) approaching the 100m. It was established that approaching the 100m, ZAC COMMAND was checked when crowded to the inside of WHYDOYOUASK, which shifted inwards away from NATURALBORNFIGHTER, which initially shifted inwards away from SPEEDY PHIL (App T Rehaizat). In the circumstances, no blame could be attributed to any rider and as such, no further action was taken. However, Jockey Aslam was warned and advised that he must exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.
