Trainer J Meagher, when questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of GALLERIA, stated that he was at a loss to explain the improved performance other than he believed that the gelding is a horse that is suited over a longer journey and may have appreciated today’s fast early pace. His explanation was noted.

 RACE 2:  CLASS 5, DIV 2 - 1600M

DRAGON STEED (App SH Low) began awkwardly and was crowded shortly after between VIRGO (R Woodworth) and KRANJI BEAUTY (S Sam).

Near the 900m, LOYAL FANS (S John) checked when racing to the inside of THE PILOT (YF Leong) and VIRGO. On Inquiry, it was established that VIRGO, which was racing keenly, became awkwardly placed inside the heels of KRANJI BEAUTY, got its head up and rolled inwards. This resulted in THE PILOT being carried inwards and crowding LOYAL FANS, which checked. In the circumstances, no blame could be attributed to any rider and as such, no further action was taken.

Jockey A Fiezan, the rider of LIM’S PASSION, when questioned regarding the fast early pace, stated that after being slightly slow, he urged his mount early and thereafter when caught wide, his mount commenced to overrace. He therefore let his mount slide forward. He further stated that LIM’S PASSION continued to race keenly and tended to continue to overrace. He also believed that as the horse was racing first up since a spell which may have contributed to the horse having a tendency to race keenly. A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on LIM’S PASSION which revealed no apparent abnormality.

Jockey J Saimee, the rider of WAIKATO, when questioned regarding the fast early pace, stated that after being caught wide early, he went forward as instructed, thereafter WAIKATO commenced to overrace and was difficult to settle. SINGAPORE MARCH MEETING 2008
SATURDAY, 15 MARCH 2008:

RACE 8

At the conclusion of an Inquiry on Sunday, 16 March 2008, App J Farook, the rider of ZINLY, in the presence of his Master, Trainer S Chua, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9) in that whilst riding ZINLY in the eighth race at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Saturday, 15 March 2008, near the 1100m, he allowed his mount to shift inwards, when insufficiently clear, thereby crowding NO LIMIT (YF Leong), which checked and lost ground. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, guilty plea and the degree of interference and carelessness. App Farook was suspended from riding in races with effect from Monday, 17 March 2008 to Saturday, 22 March 2008 both dates inclusive (three Race Days) and was advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 8
On Sunday, 16 March 2008, the Stewards concluded an Inquiry into the reasons for NO LIMIT (YF Leong) having to check passing the 1000m when crowded between ZINLY (App J Farook) to its inside and LIM’S ZERPERB (Din Azis) to its outside. It was established that passing the 1000m, ZINLY laid outwards. At the same time, LIM’S ZERPERB was improving to the outside of NO LIMIT. This resulted in NO LIMIT being crowded and having to be eased. In the circumstances, no blame could be attributed to any rider and as such, no further action was taken.

RACE 8
At the conclusion of an Inquiry on Sunday, 16 March 2008, Jockey YF Leong, the rider of NO LIMIT, was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9) in that whilst riding NO LIMIT in the eighth race at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Saturday, 15 March 2008, over the concluding stages, he allowed his mount to shift inwards, whilst riding it along and insufficiently clear, thereby resulting in it shifting into the running of RAUL (S Sam) and crowding that horse, which checked and lost ground. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record and the degree of interference and carelessness. Jockey Leong was suspended from riding in races with effect from Monday, 17 March 2008 to Saturday, 22 March 2008 both dates inclusive (three Race Days) and was advised of his Right of Appeal.

Jockey Leong subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal against the decision of the Stipendiary Stewards and the penalty imposed on him. On application, he was granted a Stay of Sentence. The Appeal will be heard at a date to be fixed.
