 PENANG TURF CLUB
JANUARY MEETING
Fourth Day,  Sunday,  31 January 2016

 RACE 1:  CLASS 5 - 1400M

HAPPY CHOICE, a course scratching as it had a swollen off-hind leg, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

LA FAMILIA (App Z Khairil) jumped awkwardly outwards at the start and shortly after the start, rolled inwards, brushed MY SWALLOW (App AM Aizat) and became unbalanced.

JETSTAR EAGLE (App KC Tham) was slow into stride after the start.

LA FAMILIA showed no early pace in the back straight.

MY SWALLOW raced tight on the turn at the 800m.

JETSTAR EAGLE was caught three wide on the turn at the 800m.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that BLAZING STEED (KL Lee) returned having cast its off-fore plate.

Post-race veterinary examinations of ASTROHEAT (F Yap) and CODE OF SILENCE (App S Shafrizal) revealed no obvious abnormality. CODE OF SILENCE was impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

 RACE 2:  MAIDEN - 1400M

Trainer R Lines was fined RM100 under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on EN LAUDER (J De Souza).

HALO IMAGE, which was down 21kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

SKY WALKER (App S Shafrizal) jumped awkwardly outwards at the start and was a little slow into stride.

ARCHAEOLOGY (App Z Khairil) jumped awkwardly at the start and shortly afterwards, came together with ALL WEALTH (M Zairi).

SKY WALKER and EN LAUDER showed no early pace.

ARCHAEOLOGY was pulling hard and difficult to settle in the back straight.

HALO IMAGE (J Shankar) lost speed from the 800m.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that HALO IMAGE bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of ALL WEALTH revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

Trainer R Lines, when questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of EN LAUDER, advised the Stewards that in its previous run in Kuala Lumpur on 16 January 2016, the rain-affected "yielding" track had not suited EN LAUDER. Today’s "good" track in a weaker field, down a class, appears to suit EN LAUDER and would account for the improved performance. Trainer R Lines’ explanation was noted and his attention was drawn to the rules regarding "in- and-out" running under MRA Rule 117(3). He was further advised that the Stewards would monitor EN LAUDER’s performance and should it prove to be inconsistent in future, it may be suspended.

 RACE 3:  CLASS 5 - 1700M

Trainer R Lines was fined RM250 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to seek the Stewards’ permission for Jockey J De Souza to ride 1½kg over on KINGSHIP ADMIRAL within the stipulated time.

Trainer R Lines was fined RM100 under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on OCEAN WAVE (C Goon).

After the start, OCEAN WAVE, EMPEROR QIAN LONG (App AM Aizat) and GEORGIE BOY (App KC Tham) were all a little slow into stride.

After being chased onto the pace, KINGSHIP ADMIRAL was pulling and difficult to settle in the back straight.

WORLD SUPERMAN (S Sandana), racing on the inside rail, laid outwards onto INI KALI (App AK Lim) approaching the 1400m.

Rounding the turn at about the 1400m, SIR CHALLAN (App WK Lee) checked outwards in a tightly-bunched field. FLY NOW (App S Shafrizal) and FLYING HORSE (F Yap) were both hampered and OCEAN WAVE was carried wide in this incident. The Stewards were satisfied that no individual rider was responsible for this incident.

PISCES GEM (J Shankar) ran about under pressure in the home straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of KINGSHIP ADMIRAL revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

 RACE 4:  CLASS 4 - 2000M

Jockey J Shankar, the rider of LEGAL LORD, requested a veterinary check on the gelding just prior to the start. Acting on veterinary advice that LEGAL LORD was lame off-fore, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 3.18pm. LEGAL LORD will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being declared to race again.

At the start, LIGHTNING THIEF (App Z Khairil) eased when tightened on the outside of STREET TEASE (App T Krisna) which stumbled badly at the start.

LIGHTNING THIEF, which was racing keenly, steadied on the inside of POLO MASTER (App AK Lim) at about the 1900m mark.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that LIGHTNING THIEF returned lame off-fore and was exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of POLO MASTER revealed no obvious abnormality.

App AM Aizat, the rider of KIM WARRIOR, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 5:  ENRICH STAKES A - 1700M

HALO INSPIRE, which was down 16kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

At about the 250m, HALO INSPIRE (App KC Tham) was held up for a clear run when racing behind and between BEAUTIFUL CHOICE (Lou Ho) and LOVE ME (App T Krisna).

Shortly after the 100m, Jockey S Thai Yang, the rider of MORE THAN WORDS, dropped his off-side rein.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that MOGAN’S PRIDE (App SU Lim) returned having cast its near-hind plate.

Post-race veterinary examinations of LITTLEBITOFJOY (App KC Wong) and GLORY AGE (App AK Lim) revealed no obvious abnormality. LITTLEBITOFJOY was impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

Trainer R Lines, when questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of FEISTY LEO (J De Souza), advised the Stewards that in its last outing in Ipoh on 3 January 2016, FEISTY LEO was caught wide from a bad draw and was unable to race up with the speed which was their intention. In today’s race, FEISTY LEO was drawn barrier 2 and was able to race closer to the pace which proved to be an advantage. Trainer R Lines’ explanation was noted and his attention was drawn to the rules regarding "in- and-out" running under MRA Rule 117(3). He was further advised that the Stewards would monitor FEISTY LEO’s performance and should it prove to be inconsistent in future, it may be suspended.

 RACE 6:  CLASS 4 - 1400M

Trainer HS Lim was fined RM500 under MRA Rule 109(4) for presenting GREEN TRACER (J Shankar) to race with both hind plates which were worn out and had to be replaced.

App R Narendran, the rider of PERFECT PREDATOR, requested a veterinary check on the gelding just prior to the start. Acting on veterinary advice that PERFECT PREDATOR was lame near-fore, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 4.24 pm. PERFECT PREDATOR will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being declared to race again.

CAPRICCI PRINCE (KL Lee), which was a little slow to begin at the start, raced four wide on the turn from the 800M and raced wide into the home straight.

Post-race veterinary examinations of CAPRICCI PRINCE and LONHMIN (KT Cheng) revealed no obvious abnormality. Both geldings were impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

 RACE 7:  ENRICH STAKES A - 1200M

AVE THE SNIP, a course scratching as it was lame off-fore, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

COLIN THE FIRTH, a course scratching as it was bruised both fore fetlock and off-hind hock, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

DROGBA, a course scratching as it had sustained sole bruise near-fore, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Acting on veterinary advice that ÉCLAIR SENSATION (K Yazid) was lame off-fore, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 2.20 pm. The gelding will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being declared to race again.

Shortly after the start, BRAVE MALALA (App J Daniel) and HOHOHO (App KC Wong) were both inconvenienced when tightened between LEMON LAW (App S Shafrizal) and MIA (C Goon).

At about the 900m, TILSWORTH FREDDIE (KL Lee) steadied and lost ground when tightened on the inside of MIA which ran about.

LEMON LAW was pulling hard and hanging outwards from the turn at the 800m.

Post-race veterinary examinations of LEMON LAW, TILSWORTH FREDDIE and HOHOHO revealed no obvious abnormality. LEMON LAW and TILSWORTH FREDDIE were impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

 GENERAL

RACE 6 (R145), SATURDAY, 30 JANUARY 2016, 3RD DAY, PENANG JANUARY MEETING 2016

At the conclusion of an inquiry today (31 January 2016), after taking evidence from Trainer KF Wong and Jockey KL Lee, the trainer and rider of SMALL TIGER respectively, and reviewing the films, Jockey KL Lee pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) as read with 44(8)(a) in that whilst riding SMALL TIGER in the above race, he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that SMALL TIGER was given full opportunity of winning or of obtaining the best possible placing. The particulars of the charge were as follows:

(1) After a slow start, he failed to make sufficient effort to encourage SMALL TIGER to make up the lost ground and thereafter raced at the rear of the field, tailed off, until entering the home straight;

(2) In the home straight, he rode SMALL TIGER with insufficient vigour and determination when the gelding was running on.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case and Jockey KL Lee’s previous clean record. Jockey KL Lee was disqualified for a period of one year with immediate effect from Monday, 1 February 2016 and to expire on Tuesday, 31 January 2017, both days inclusive. In addition, he was fined a sum of RM10,000. He was advised of his right of appeal (5.20pm).
