MARCH (MRA CUP) MEETING
Fourth Day,  Sunday,  30 March 2008

 RACE 1:  CLASS 5, DIV 3 - 1700M

Trainer MC Lam was fined RM200 under the Penang Turf Club Official Programme for failing to seek the Stewards’ prior permission to allow two Syces to lead the horse SPEED WONDERFUL to the holding area.

The Stewards granted permission for App J Lim to replace App H Mohd as the rider of BABY HAN as the latter was unable to make the carded weight. App H Mohd was fined RM500 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a).

The Stewards permitted Jockey M Djulkifli to replace Jockey A Cavallo on SPEED WONDERFUL as the latter did not arrive on course due to traffic congestion.

CLOUD CITY was kicked by another runner behind the barrier. Acting on veterinary advice that CLOUD CITY was lame near-hind, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 2:16pm. The gelding will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

SPEED WONDERFUL was slow into stride.

STAY THE CAUSE hung in in the straight.

 RACE 2:  RESTRICTED MAIDEN - 1200M

ITALKRANE, which was up 19kgs in body weight, and MOUNTAIN EAGLE, which was up 17kgs in body weight since their last runs, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

AHEARN BOAZ was slow into stride.

SHE’S A DARLING was inconvenienced at the start as a result of MI ANGELITOS jumping awkwardly outwards. Shortly thereafter, MI ANGELITOS rolled inwards resulting in IT’SDWING having to steady.

MI ANGELITOS over-raced in the early and middle stages and was difficult to settle.

OCTOPUS raced wide into the home straight.

AHEARN BOAZ hung in in the latter stages.

A post-race veterinary examination of IT’SDWING revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 3:  CLASS 5, DIV 2 - 1200M

ZOHAR, a course scratching as it was lame off-fore fetlock, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet after a 10-day embargo) before being entered to race again.

MATISSE, a course scratching as it was suffering from a swollen left neck, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

JOKER JUNIOR, which was up 21kgs in body weight, and KINGSLEY, which was down 17kgs in body weight since their last runs, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

When questioned regarding the apparent poor performance of GOLDEN FIRE HEART, Trainer A Rahim was unable to offer any reasonable explanation for the horse’s performance. The Stewards were concerned that this horse had built up a pattern of inconsistent running and also deemed its performance to be unacceptable in terms of MRA Rule 117(3). In view of this, GOLDEN FIRE HEART was suspended from racing for a period of one month and thereafter will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again. A post-race veterinary examination of GOLDEN FIRE HEART, which compounded badly in the home straight, revealed no obvious abnormality. The horse was impounded.

 RACE 4:  CLASS 5, DIV 1 - 1200M

BABY RUNNER, a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised sole off-fore fetlock, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

ROYAL GAMBADE, which was down 20kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

Trainer A Rahim was fined RM100 under MRA Rule 65(5)(b) for failing to produce the declared colours for DREAMMORE.

DANGEROUS MAN was slow to begin.

ROYAL GAMBADE and ROMANTIC SCHOLAR were both slow into stride.

Passing the 1000m mark, DANGEROUS MAN was carried outwards by WONDERFUL KID.

Approaching the 800m mark, DREAMMORE was cramped and had to steady when racing tight between SPEED CHASER and BABY SUN.

FLASH OF LIGHT over-raced in the back straight.

ROYAL GAMBADE and DANGEROUS MAN were both obliged to race wide on the turn.

CLARKE QUAY which was laying out, finished the race wide.

A post-race veterinary examination of DANGEROUS MAN revealed no obvious abnormality and returned having cast its near-fore plate. The gelding was impounded.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that SUCCESS STRENGTH returned having cast its near-hind plate.

 RACE 5:  DA MA CAI STAKES,  CLASSES 2 & 3 - 1700M

SHANGHAI STAR laid in in the home straight.

The saddle on EMPEROR GREG slipped backwards during running.

Jockey V Sivan, the rider of YIPPEE BLUE DILL, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of YIPPEE BLUE DILL revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey M Wepner, the rider of LUCKY TRIO, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of LUCKY TRIO revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 6:  CLASS 3, DIV 1 - 1400M

ROYAL PRIDE was slow into stride.

LIM’S QUARTZ which over-raced in the back straight, was difficult to settle.

Approaching the 200m mark, LONG SOCKS had to steady as a result of WHERE ALSO KEN which was dropping back through the field.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that WHERE ALSO KEN bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b).

 RACE 7:  CLASS 4, DIV 2 - 1400M

ROYAL BEAUTY, which was down 15kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

ZHU CHEN, a course scratching as it was lame off-fore, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

The saddle on ZABAI ZABAI slipped forward whilst proceeding to the start and the girth was replaced as it was too long. Trainer HS Lim would be warned that in future he must ensure that when saddling his runners, the girth fits correctly, failing which action may be taken against him.

ROYAL BEAUTY was slow into stride.

GREATLY hung in in the straight.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that BLAZING BLAIR returned having cast its off-fore plate.

Trainer M Sukri would be fined RM200 under the Penang Turf Club Official Programme for failing to seek the Stewards’ prior permission to allow two Syces to lead the horse ISHBILIYA to the holding area.

RACE 7 (R362), 3RD DAY, SATURDAY, 29 MARCH 2008
– CURRENT MEETING


At the conclusion of an inquiry on 30 March 2008, App Jacky Lim, the rider of FANTASTIC MIND, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer C Robert, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(c) in that whilst riding FANTASTIC MIND in the above race, shortly after the start, he allowed his mount to shift inwards when he was insufficiently clear of GOLD LION, he then continued to shift inwards onto BENS BUSINESS, resulting in BENS BUSINESS having to check. TIEN CHING which was following, had to steady in this incident.

App J Lim was suspended from riding in races for a period of three race days with effect from 31 March 2008 and to expire on 6 April 2008, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (2:25pm).
