MARCH (MRA CUP) MEETING
Third Day,  Saturday,  29 March 2008

 RACE 1:  CLASS 5, DIV 2 - 1700M

SIR GREG, which was up 15kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

LIM’S INFINITY cast both hind shoes on the way to the start. To avoid unnecessary delay, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 1:44pm.

CALDECOTT VISION was slow into stride and trailed the field throughout.

At approximately the 50m mark, WIN THE WORLD steadied momentarily when WONDERFUL MELANG rolled in slightly.

Jockey M Djulkifli, the rider of CALDECOTT VISION, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of CALDECOTT VISION revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

Jockey Y Aify, the rider of SIR GREG, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of SIR GREG revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded.

 RACE 2:  CLASS 5, DIV 1 - 1700M

SAN ANTONIO, a course scratching as it was found to have lost condition, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

CIZEN TYCOON, which was up 16kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

SPEED WARRIOR was slow to begin.

ASTONISH dipped at the crossing at about the 1400m mark and thereafter had to steady off the hind quarters of AL EM.

CIZEN TYCOON (Jockey SH Oh) hung in badly in the straight resulting in the rider being unable to assist his mount fully.

The saddle on KNIGHT GREG slipped backwards during running.

A post-race veterinary examination of ASTONISH revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory infection and as such will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again. The gelding was impounded.

A post-race veterinary examination of CIZEN TYCOON revealed that it was lame off-fore and as such will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

 RACE 3:  CLASS 3, DIV 2 - 1400M

BIG ZOOM was obliged to race wide into the home straight.

At approximately the 250m mark and the 50m mark, THUNDERSHOCK was cramped and had to steady when racing tight on the inside of TOUCH BY ANGEL (A Fiezan). App A Fiezan was shown the film and warned that he would be expected to make more attempt to keep his horses on a straight course in future particularly when using the whip.

A post-race veterinary examination of THUNDERSHOCK revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that TOUCH BY ANGEL bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b).

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that BIG ZOOM returned having cast its near-fore plate.

 RACE 4:  NATIONAL STUD FARM SILVER PLATE - 1400M

HUO BAO and SILENT AGE, which were both down 18kgs in body weight since their last runs, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

A NEW BEGINNING, which could not be ridden to the start and was led to the start, will be required to pass a test (1 starting stall test, to be ridden unaided to the start) before being entered to race again. A NEW BEGINNING, which was kicked by the Starter Hack on the way to the start, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to race.

Acting on veterinary advice that SILENT AGE was lame off-fore, the gelding was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 3:31pm. SILENT AGE will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

MAIZNIFICANT was slow to begin.

The saddle on MY VALENTINE slipped backwards during running.

HUO BAO, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of DAYLIGHT AHEAD revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 5:  CLASS 5, DIV 3 - 1200M

ESTABLISH, which was up 17kgs in body weight, and FOXY LADY, which was up 24kgs in body weight since their last runs, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

CONSPIRE jumped awkwardly and was slow into stride.

MARVELLOUS PRESENT was slow into stride.

Approaching the 200m, CONSPIRE steadied when tightened on the inside of CLASSIC GOLD which rolled under the whip. Shortly thereafter, CONSPIRE switched inwards over the heels of JOKER JEWEL to obtain a clear run, resulting in HOLD THAT MONEY having to steady. Jockey E Aslam, the rider of CONSPIRE, was shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Passing the 100m mark, JOKER JEWEL steadied outwards over the heels of FOXY LADY which rolled inwards slightly. Shortly thereafter, Jockey H Samsir, the rider of JOKER JEWEL, became unbalanced for a number of strides, being dislodged after the winning post.

Jockey H Samsir, the rider of JOKER JEWEL, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of JOKER JEWEL revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 6:  DA MA CAI STAKES,  CLASS 2 - 1400M

SPEEDY WONG CHOY over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Jockey H Samsir, the rider of JOKER TREASURE, was questioned with regards to his ride between the 500m to the 200m. After reviewing the film, he was warned that the Stewards were not entirely satisfied with his ride and that in future he would be expected to ride all his horses out so as to leave no room for query. He was also warned that he would be expected to be more competitive in all his rides in future.

A post-race veterinary examination of GIANT FORCE revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 7:  CLASS 4, DIV 1 - 1400M

BENS BUSINESS jumped awkwardly outwards, inconveniencing GOLD LION. Shortly thereafter, BENS BUSINESS and TIEN CHING became cramped and had to check as a result of FANTASTIC MIND (App J Lim) shifting inwards. An inquiry into this incident will be held on a date to be fixed.

TULSA and GOLD LION were both slow into stride.

TULSA shifted out to obtain a clear run at approximately the 300m mark.

The saddle on FANTASTIC MIND slipped backwards during running.

When was questioned with regards to the apparent improved performance of TULSA as compared to its run last week, Trainer R Rogers stated that he was very disappointed with the horse’s performance last week and was unable to explain the poor run but today the horse’s performance was as he had expected. His explanation was noted.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, Jockey I Saifudin, the rider of BENS BUSINESS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(c) in that whilst riding BENS BUSINESS in this race, at approximately the 900m mark, he caused varying degrees of interference to the runners on his inside, namely TIEN CHING, SPEED WANG, PENANG STAR and BIG TURNOUT. Jockey Saifudin was suspended from riding in races for a period of four race days with effect from 31 March 2008 and to expire on 11 April 2008, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (5:55pm).

 GENERAL

RACE 3 (R326), 1ST DAY, SATURDAY, 22 MARCH 2008
PENANG TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2008

At the conclusion of an inquiry on 24 March 2008, App K Eirwan, the rider of WONDERFUL WIZARD, in the presence of his Master, Trainer KC Tiang, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding WONDERFUL WIZARD in the above race, he made insufficient effort to ride to the instructions given by the Trainer which had been submitted to the Stewards prior to the race.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the facts of this case and App Eirwan’s record. App Eirwan was suspended from riding in races for a period of three months with immediate effect from 24 March 2008 and to expire on 23 June 2008, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (1:30pm).

In addition, Trainer KC Tiang was found guilty to a charge of negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) in that he failed to report to the Stewards immediately after the running of the above race with regards to his concerns with the ride on WONDERFUL WIZARD. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the facts of this case and Trainer Tiang’s clean record. Trainer Tiang was fined RM5,000 and was advised of his right of appeal (1:50pm).

Trainer Tiang was further informed that he cannot nominate App Eirwan on WONDERFUL WIZARD without the Stewards’ prior permission.

Trainer Tiang subsequently exercised his right of appeal on 25 March 2008. The appeal will be held on a date to be fixed.

PENANG TURF CLUB TRACKWORK, TUESDAY, 25 MARCH 2008

Trainer Lim Hoon Seng was fined RM200 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for presenting LONG SOCKS for trackwork at about 8:10am on 25 March 2008 without a saddle cloth number.

Trainer M Sukri was fined RM1,000 under MRA Rule 39(1)(e) for allowing Ms Ramizah Bte Abdul Rahim to enter and work in his stable at Selangor Turf Club when she was not in possession of a valid MRA pass.

INQUIRY INTO THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING MR VELOO A/L KANNIAH BEING ALLOWED TO ENTER AND WORK IN TRAINER JOHNNY LIM BOON THONG’S (TRAINER BT LIM) STABLE AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB WHEN HE WAS NOT IN POSSESSION OF A VALID MRA PASS

At the conclusion of an inquiry on 27 March 2008, Trainer BT Lim was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 39(1)(e) in that he, as the Trainer, allowed Mr Veloo a/l Kanniah to enter and work in his stable at the Selangor Turf Club when he was not in possession of a valid MRA pass.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Trainer Lim’s previous clean record. Trainer Lim was fined RM2,000 and was advised of his right of appeal (12:15pm).

The report dated 27 March 2008 (V08/17) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 2 coded urine samples from the above-mentioned race meeting were received on 21 March 2008, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.
