RACE 6 (R1526), SUNDAY, 20 DECEMBER 2015, 1ST DAY, PENANG YANG DI PERTUA NEGERI GOLD CUP MEETING 2015

At the conclusion of an inquiry today (27 December 2015) at the Penang Turf Club, Jockey CK Tan, the rider of NOTHING TO LOSE, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that at approximately the 200m mark in the above race, he failed to take a clear run on the inside of ABSOLUTE MAVERICK (S Thai Yang) when there was an opportunity, and when it was reasonable, to do so.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the facts of this case, Jockey CK Tan’s points of mitigation and his riding record. Jockey CK Tan was suspended from riding in races for a period of two months. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey CK Tan’s suspension to take effect from Monday, 4 January 2016 and to expire on Thursday, 3 March 2016, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (1.10pm).

RACE 1 (R1528), SATURDAY, 26 DECEMBER 2015, 2ND DAY, PENANG YANG DI PERTUA NEGERI GOLD CUP MEETING 2015

Trainer KF Wong, when questioned about the apparent reversal of form of GOOD GIFT, advised the Stewards that GOOD GIFT had appeared to improve in this run, however, he felt that the field in the race on 26 December 2015 was very weak and his instructions, as usual, were to sit mid-field, 3rd to 4th from the pace. However, from barrier 1, this horse had a good jump and found himself in front, on the pace. In its previous outing on 6 December 2015 in "soft" going, GOOD GIFT was drawn on the extreme outside and was unable to race mid-field. Trainer KF Wong’s explanation was noted and his attention was drawn to the rules regarding "in- and-out" running (MRA Rule 117(3)). He was informed that should GOOD GIFT prove to be inconsistent in its performance in future, it may be suspended.
