MARCH (MRA CUP) MEETING
First Day,  Saturday,  22 March 2008

 RACE 1:  MAIDEN, DIV 2 - 1400M

SITARA’S MUSIC, a course scratching as it was suffering from bruising to the off-fore foot, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

SPEED FIRE, which was down 17kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

KIM UNCLE jumped awkwardly outwards, bumping AISHITERU onto SPEED FIRE.

CLASSIC GOLD reared on jumping and was slow to begin.

AISHITERU had a tendency to over-race in the back straight.

JOKER JEWEL hung out in the straight.

Approaching the 400m mark, KIM UNCLE dipped.

App S Sandana, the rider of HARMONY, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of HARMONY revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 2:  MAIDEN, DIV 1 - 1400M

ROYAL MUSIC, which was up 26kgs in body weight, WONDERFUL MELANG, which was up 16kgs in body weight, and TANG OF GOLD, which was up 35kgs in body weight since their last runs, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

The Stewards permitted App SC Liew to replace App KL Lee on SKY INDEX as the latter was certified unwell.

The Stewards permitted Jockey S Salee to replace Jockey Kelvin Oh on RUBY WINGS. Jockey Kelvin Oh, the rider of RUBY WINGS, was fined RM500 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for accepting a ride on RUBY WINGS in this race when he was unable to make the carded weight.

Light rain fell during the running of this race.

I CARE jumped awkwardly inwards, inconveniencing ROYAL MUSIC.

LIM’S INFINITY was slow to begin.

TANG OF GOLD shifted about in the home straight.

SKY INDEX, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that RUBY WINGS returned cut into off-fore canon.

 RACE 3:  CLASS 4, DIV 5 - 1200M

AHEARN BOAZ and WONDERFUL WIZARD, which were both up 21kgs in body weight since their last runs, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

ENCHANTED RIVER, which dislodged its rider on the way to the start and bolted back to the parade ring, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to race. ENCHANTED RIVER, which was unable to be ridden to the start, was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 2:44pm in order to avoid unnecessary delay. The gelding will be required to pass a test (starting stall and to be ridden unaided to the start) before being entered to race again.

ROLLING HIGH brushed the inside running rail at approximately the 1000m mark and again at about the 800m mark.

All riders returned to scale an average of 1/2kg overweight due to the adverse weather conditions.

The state of track was downgraded to “Soft” after the running of this race.

A post-race veterinary examination of ROYAL JADE revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded.

A post-race veterinary examination of WONDERFUL WIZARD revealed no obvious abnormality. An inquiry into the running and handling of WONDERFUL WIZARD (App K Eirwan) will be held on a date to be fixed.

 RACE 4:  JOCKEY CLUB OF TURKEY TROPHY
                 CLASS 2 & 3 - 1200M

FIRE KINGDOM and PENTATHLON, which were both down 18kgs in body weight, and MAHAKAYA, which was down 15kgs in body weight since their last runs, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

WINNING FIGHTER which stood and was considerably slow to begin, will be required to pass a test (starting stall) before being entered to race again.

STORM EXPRESS was slow into stride.

Approaching the 300m, EASTERN PALACE was inconvenienced when CLARTON SUPER rolled out. Jockey I Saifudin, the rider of CLARTON SUPER, was shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Approaching the 200m mark, CIZEN ISTANA switched out to obtain a clear run.

At about the 150m mark, STORM EXPRESS shifted out to obtain a clear run.

App M Zairi, the rider of WINNING FIGHTER, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of WINNING FIGHTER revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that MAHAKAYA returned cut into off-hind.

 RACE 5:  JAPAN RACING ASSOCIATION TROPHY
                 CLASS 1 & 2 - 1700M

Trainer R Lines was fined RM250 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to submit a gear change form for CONTINUANCE within the stipulated time.

SHANGHAI STAR and RISE TO STARDOM were both slow into stride.

Approaching the 1400m, FAST FLYING steadied momentarily when KING’S CARNIVAL rolled inwards.

FAST FLYING had a tendency to lay out in the back straight and laid in over the concluding stages.

SARGASSO was obliged to race wide on the bend.

Passing the 600m mark, ZANKEL and POWER OF GOLD brushed when racing tight.

App S Sandana, the rider of SHANGHAI STAR, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of SHANGHAI STAR revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 6:  DA MA CAI STAKES,  CLASS 4 - 1700M

SKY MISSILE, which was down 16kgs in body weight, and MAIN POWER, which was down 19kgs in body weight since their last runs, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

NINETYFIVE EAGLE, AFTER ME, GREATLY and SPICE ISLAND were all slow into stride.

Jockey H Barnabas, the rider of READY FOR BATTLE, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of READY FOR BATTLE revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey A Cavallo, the rider of HURRICANE BORNEO, reported that his horse was making respiratory noises. A post-race veterinary examination of HURRICANE BORNEO revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of SKY MISSILE revealed that it was lame off-fore and as such will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

After the running of this race, App CK Tan, the rider of NINETYFIVE EAGLE, reported that his gate was slow to open. After reviewing the film, it was established that the gate was not slow and opened in unison with the other gates. App CK Tan, in the presence of his Master, Trainer S Liew, was warned that in future he should make accurate race reports, failing which action may be taken against him.

 RACE 7:  RACING WRITERS ASSOCIATION STAKES
                 CLASS 3 - 1200M

WESTERN CONQUEROR, which was down 15kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

The Stewards permitted Jockey Y Aify to replace Jockey Kelvin Oh on WESTERN CONQUEROR. Jockey Kelvin Oh, the rider of WESTERN CONQUEROR, was fined RM500 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for accepting a ride on WESTERN CONQUEROR in this race when he was unable to make the carded weight.

Shortly after the start, FORT APACHE rolled outwards resulting in OLYMPIC FLAME, PADDY MAC, BEE BEE TYCOON and WHERE ALSO KEN becoming cramped and having to steady.

MELANG EXPRESS, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

Jockey S Salee, the rider of PADDY MAC, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of PADDY MAC revealed that it was lame near-fore, and returned having cast its near-fore plate and with a cut into near-fore. The gelding will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of BANKER WAY revealed that it was lame off-fore and as such will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of BEE BEE TYCOON revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that OLYMPIC FLAME returned cut into off-hind.

 RACE 8:  CLASS 4, DIV 4 - 1200M

CONSPICIOUS, which was up 16kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

The Stewards permitted Jockey Y Aify to replace Jockey N Azman on ZHU CHEN as the latter did not arrive on course. This matter would be investigated further.

PENANG STAR and BENS BUSINESS came together at the start.

SUCCESS ALWAYS jumped awkwardly inwards and thereafter lugged inwards, cramping WEDNESDAY RUNNER, BIG TURNOUT and ZHU CHEN.

Passing the 200m mark, SUCCESS ALWAYS steadied off the heels of CONSPICIOUS which rolled inwards. SUCCESS ALWAYS then had difficulty in obtaining a clear run and at about the 100m mark, shifted in to obtain a clear run.

The saddle on PENANG STAR slipped back during running.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that CONSPICIOUS returned cut into near-hind.

When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of COLOURLAND CLASSIC, Trainer C Robert stated that he was unable to offer any reasonable explanation. His explanation was noted and his attention was drawn to the Rules regarding in and out running.
