Fourth Day,  Sunday,  11 May 2008

 RACE 1:  RESTRICTED MAIDEN - 1200M

NATURAL PERFORMER, a course scratching as it was suffering from a corneal ulcer to its right eye, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

CENTURY BEAU, a course scratching as it was suffering from a fever, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

PENANG WARRIOR and COLOUR ISTANA came together at the start.

Approaching the 100m mark, OCTOPUS steadied off the heels of MONOPOLY which rolled outwards.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, Jockey YF Leong, the rider of OCTOPUS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(c) in that whilst riding OCTOPUS in this race, he shifted in at approximately the 400m mark resulting in PRIVATE JET becoming cramped and having to check. Jockey YF Leong was suspended from riding in races for a period of four race days with effect from 12 May 2008 and to expire on 23 May 2008, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (2:10pm).

Acting on a report from the Security Department that the Syce who accompanied COLOUR ISTANA into the pre-race holding area was not the same Syce who accompanied the gelding to the post-race holding area, the Stewards warned Trainer Evert van Breukelen that this practice should not be adopted and that the same Syce should accompany his horse to both the pre-race and the post-race holding areas.

 RACE 2:  RESTRICTED MAIDEN - 1200M

DENDROBIUM, a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised sole off-fore, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

PENANG HERO, which was up 15kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

COLOURLAND WAY was slow into stride.

Shortly after the start, DASHING SPIRIT was tightened between BEST FRIEND and CENTURY LORD which jumped awkwardly outwards.

BEST FRIEND laid in in the home straight and at about the 150m mark, switched out over the heels of CENTURY LORD. DASHING SPIRIT, which was following, had to steady in this incident.

WITHOUT A DOUBT finished the race wide.

Jockey A Kumar, the rider of WITHOUT A DOUBT, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of WITHOUT A DOUBT revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey WK Yan, the rider of PENANG HERO, reported that his horse was not striding out freely and as a result, did not persevere with his ride. A post-race veterinary examination of PENANG HERO revealed no obvious abnormality and returned having cast its off-fore plate. The gelding, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of COLOURLAND WAY revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded.

 RACE 3:  CLASS 5 - 1400M

JERAM NEW POWER jumped awkwardly inwards, making contact with ROYAL GAMBADE.

ROYAL COSSACK was slow into stride.

ROMANTIC SCHOLAR steadied momentarily in a tightly bunched field at approximately the 500m mark.

The saddle on ROYAL COSSACK slipped backwards during running.

App S Fauzi, the rider of SHE’S A DARLING, reported that his horse was not striding out freely and as a result, did not persevere with his ride. A post-race veterinary examination of SHE’S A DARLING revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 4:  CLASS 5 - 1400M

LIM’S KINGSTON was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon just prior to the start and was passed fit to race.

PURA VIDA jumped awkwardly at the start.

MI ANGELITOS over-raced in the early stages, was difficult to settle and compounded badly in the straight.

The saddle on LIM’S KINGSTON slipped backwards during running.

Jockey V Sivan, the rider of DIRTY DEEDS, reported that his horse did not act in the going.

A post-race veterinary examination of GOLD LION revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded.

A post-race veterinary examination of MI ANGELITOS revealed no obvious abnormality. The filly, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

 RACE 5:  DA MA CAI STAKES,  CLASS 4 - 1700M

The Stewards permitted Jockey V Sivan to replace Jockey O Chavez on NORTHERN MUSIC as the latter was stood down by the Club Medical Officer.

Whilst parading behind the barrier, CONAMOR’E was kicked by another runner. CONAMOR’E was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon just prior to the start and was passed fit to race.

SPEED HORSE jumped awkwardly outwards.

NORTHERN MUSIC jumped awkwardly outwards, carrying DUKE GREG onto CONAMOR’E and AKASHI.

TRUST N SINCERE stumbled shortly after the start.

Approaching the 1400m mark, NORTHERN MUSIC had to steady in a tightly bunched field.

PENANG STAR was obliged to race wide on the turn.

DUKE GREG laid out in the concluding stages.

App S Sandana, the rider of AKASHI, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of AKASHI revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey P Vellaikannu, the rider of CONAMOR’E, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of CONAMOR’E revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 6:  CLASS 5 - 1200M

AROWANA CLASSIC jumped awkwardly outwards, bumping POWER OF CITY onto COLDPLAY.

SOUND EFFECT jumped awkwardly outwards.

WORLD CRUISES was slow into stride.

Approaching the 1000m mark, POWER OF CITY commenced to over-race and improved to a position on the inside of BOOMER CAPITAL, which was shifting in, resulting in SUCCESS STRENGTH becoming cramped and having to check. SOUND EFFECT, which was following, had to take evasive action. App LL Tai, the rider of POWER OF CITY, was shown the film of the incident and warned that in future he would be expected to make greater attempt to steady his mount under similar circumstances.

App SS Vanan, the rider of SUCCESS STRENGTH, was shown the film of his ride in the latter stages and was warned that in future he would be expected to ride all his horses out fully to the finish.

Jockey I Azhar, the rider of COLOURLAND STAR, reported that his horse was making respiratory noises. A post-race veterinary examination of COLOURLAND STAR revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

 RACE 7:  CLASS 4 - 1400M

JOKER TENACITY, a course scratching as it was suffering from a generalized urticaria (skin allergy), will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

HAN VENTURE, a course scratching as it was lame both fore fetlocks, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet after a 21-day embargo) before being entered to race again.

FASHIONABLY LATE, which stood and lost considerable ground at the start, will be required to pass a test (starting stall) before being entered to race again. The gelding, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

Trainer F Maynard, the Trainer of JERAM ENERGY, who had left the course, would be questioned with regards to him leaving the course and the apparent improved performance of JERAM ENERGY.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, App Lou Ho, the rider of COFFEENTEA, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer P Pereira, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(c) in that whilst riding COFFEENTEA at about the 200m mark in this race, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of JUN SHUI causing that horse to be checked. App Lou Ho was suspended from riding in races for a period of three race days with effect from 12 May 2008 and to expire on 19 May 2008, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (6:05pm).

 RACE 8:  CLASS 4 - 1400M

JERAM ELEGANT, a course scratching as it was suffering from a swollen near-hind, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

The Stewards permitted App SC Liew to replace App KL Lee on KAKAYA as the latter was certified unwell.

MAS LABU, which was down 17kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

WHY WHY WEST, which was fractious in the barrier, was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 6:02pm acting on veterinary advice that WHY WHY WEST had injured its off-hind leg. The gelding will be required to pass a test (starting stall) before being entered to race again and undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

MIGHTY ACE was slow to begin.

Approaching the 900m mark, BENS BUSINESS steadied off the heels of NOTHATEASY. KAKAYA and PRINCE OF WHALES which were following, had to take evasive action.

At about the 250m, App J Low, the rider of WINCHESTER WONDER, dropped his whip. He was warned that a repetition of dropping the whip in future may lead to a penalty being imposed.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, App I Fadzlei, the rider of JOKER DE BEST, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer C Robert, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding JOKER DE BEST in this race, he failed to give his mount sufficient rein on jumping resulting in his horse throwing its head up and being restrained for some distance after the start. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, App I Fadzlei’s points of mitigation, his record and the fact that he had limited race riding experience. App I Fadzlei was suspended from riding in races for a period of eight race days with effect from 12 May 2008 and to expire on 1 June 2008, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (6:30pm).

Trainer R Rogers and Jockey I Saifudin were questioned with regards to the riding of BENS BUSINESS in the back straight. Trainer R Rogers stated that this horse pulled hard and he had warned Jockey I Saifudin to try and sit handy with cover. Jockey I Saifudin stated that this horse was pulling hard, had difficulty settling it and finding cover. Their explanations were noted.

 GENERAL

RACE 3 (R544), 3RD DAY, SATURDAY, 10 MAY 2008
– CURRENT MEETING


At the conclusion of an inquiry today, Jockey L Sofhan, the rider of KINGSLEY, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding KINGSLEY in the above race, he failed to make sufficient effort to place his mount midfield as instructed.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the facts of this case, Jockey L Sofhan’s points of mitigation and his record. Jockey L Sofhan was fined RM5,000 and was advised of his right of appeal (12:20pm).

RACE 4 (R545), 3RD DAY, SATURDAY, 10 MAY 2008

The Stewards rescinded the 1000m/vet test imposed on JERAM FORTUNE in the above race.
