First Day,  Saturday,  3 May 2008

 RACE 1:  RESTRICTED MAIDEN - 1200M

CARMINE HAN, a course scratching as it was inappetant, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

PHANTOM ACE was inconvenienced shortly after the start as a result of IDOLEYE’S shifting outwards and SHE’S A DARLING shifting inwards. Jockey V Sivan, the rider of SHE’S A DARLING, and App C Goon, the rider of IDOLEYE’S, were both shown the film and warned that they would be expected to make a greater attempt to keep their horses straight on jumping in future.

MI ANGELITOS raced keen and was difficult to settle in the early and middle stages.

Post-race veterinary examinations of PHANTOM ACE and NATURAL PERFORMER revealed no obvious abnormality. PHANTOM ACE was impounded.

 RACE 2:  CLASS 5 - 1200M

AROWANA PRINCE, which was up 15kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

Trainer KH Ng was fined RM100 under MRA Rule 65(5)(b) for failing to produce the declared colours for AROWANA CLASSIC.

Trainer PK Leong was fined RM250 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to confirm with Jockey J Shankar before nominating him on BELMORAL PARK.

The Stewards granted permission for App Lou Ho to replace App S Thai Yang as the rider of TOMAHAWK MISSILE as the latter was unable to make the carded weight. App S Thai Yang was fined RM500 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a).

SUCCESS STRENGTH was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon just prior to the start and was passed fit to race.

ZHEN DAO, WORLD CRUISES and AROWANA PRINCE were all slow into stride.

Approaching the 450m mark, JOKER JEWEL dipped.

MIGHTY RULER, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

Jockey TM Wan, the rider of MORE N MORE, reported that his horse showed no interest in the race. A post-race veterinary examination of MORE N MORE revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey M Wepner, the rider of BELMORAL PARK, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of BELMORAL PARK revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that INDIAN RUNNER returned having cast its near-fore plate.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, App Jacky Lim, the rider of SUCCESS STRENGTH, in the presence of his master, Trainer KF Coetzee, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(c) in that whilst riding SUCCESS STRENGTH in the above race, he shifted in at approximately the 150m mark, causing varying degrees of interference to POPULAR, ALWAYS A JOY and DUTY FREE SPIRIT. App Jacky Lim was suspended from riding in races for a period of four race days with effect from 5 May 2008 and to expire on 17 May 2008, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (2:40pm).

 RACE 3:  CLASS 5 - 1700M

Acting on veterinary advice that MAGIC SAPPHIRE was lame near-hind, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 1:15pm. MAGIC SAPPHIRE will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

STAY THE CAUSE was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon just prior to the start and was passed fit to race.

BIG CAPACITY was slow into stride.

Shortly after entering the back straight, FLASHMAN became cramped and had to steady when STAY THE CAUSE rolled inwards. Jockey M Wepner, the rider of STAY THE CAUSE, was shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Passing the 800m mark, BOMBPROOF rolled inwards slightly, making contact with SILENT TAKEOVER. Shortly thereafter, STAY THE CAUSE faltered and rolled outwards, resulting in SILENT TAKEOVER clipping its heels and stumbling. Jockey D Chong, the rider of BOMBPROOF, was shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Passing the 200m, TIME TO WIN had to steady momentarily and thereafter switched out to obtain a clear run.

App Lou Ho, the rider of CALDECOTT VISION, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of CALDECOTT VISION revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

Jockey N Azman, the rider of FEEL THE POWER, reported that his horse was making respiratory noises. A post-race veterinary examination of FEEL THE POWER revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey M Djulkifli, the rider of FLASHMAN, reported that his horse showed no interest in the race. The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that FLASHMAN returned cut into near-hind.

Post-race veterinary examinations of BIG CAPACITY and TIME TO WIN revealed no obvious abnormality. BIG CAPACITY was impounded.

 RACE 4:  DA MA CAI STAKES,  CLASS 4 - 1700M

NINETYFIVE EAGLE, which could not be boxed, was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 3:34pm. The mare will be required to pass a test (starting stall) before being entered to race again.

FIRST DEFENCE was slow into stride.

BAN SOON over-raced in the back straight.

HOT OR NOT drifted out under pressure in the concluding stages.

 RACE 5:  TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN ANNIVERSARY CUP - 1400M

POLAR GIRL, which was down 19kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

A NEW BEGINNING, which was difficult in proceeding to the start and had to be led to the start, will be required to pass a test (starting stall, to be ridden unaided to the start) before being entered to race again.

LABYRINTHOFWEALTH jumped awkwardly outwards, inconveniencing DIAMOND MINE and A NEW BEGINNING, resulting in STRAIGHT MONEY becoming cramped and was slow to begin.

TRADE N LUCK jumped awkwardly at the start, bumping ORANJESTAR. At the same time, FUTURE PRINCESS jumped awkwardly inwards, carrying WONDERFUL GIFT inwards, bumping FAIRMAN.

MAIZNIFICANT steadied in a tightly bunched field at approximately the 1200m mark.

LABYRINTHOFWEALTH over-raced in the back straight.

A NEW BEGINNING was obliged to race wide into the home straight.

DIAMOND MINE hung in in the straight.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that FAIRMAN returned having cast its near-fore plate and HE’S A CHARMER returned having cast its near-hind plate.

An objection was lodged by Trainer KF Coetzee, the Trainer of MAIZNIFICANT, placed second, against TRADE N LUCK (Y Aify), being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference at about the 100m mark. After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race. The objection was overruled, the result stood and Trainer KF Coetzee’s deposit was forfeited.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, Jockey Y Aify, the rider of TRADE N LUCK, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(c) in that whilst riding TRADE N LUCK in this race, he shifted in at approximately the 800m mark, resulting in KEEP RISING becoming cramped and having to check. Jockey Y Aify was suspended from riding in races for a period of four race days with effect from 5 May 2008 and to expire on 17 May 2008, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (5:05pm).

 RACE 6:  CLASS 4 - 1200M

WESTERN CONQUEROR, which was down 16kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

This race was rescheduled to start at 4:45pm.

EVIL GENERAL commenced to give ground at about the 600m and compounded in the straight.

At about the 1100m, OUR POLLY steadied of the heels of ROYAL MUSIC which shifted in. App Jacky Lim, the rider of ROYAL MUSIC, was shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

At about the 300m, WESTERN CONQUEROR laid in and had to be steadied off the heels of TIME LION.

A post-race veterinary examination of EVIL GENERAL, which raced poorly, revealed that it was suffering from ulcerated epiglottis and as such will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of FUTURE FORTUNE today as compared to its previous run on 23 March 2008 in Penang, Trainer KC Tiang explained on that occasion, it returned tied-up and since then it has worked well, and won a trial. His explanation was noted and his attention was drawn to the rules regarding “in-and-out running”.

 RACE 7:  CLASS 4 - 1200M

FANTASTIC MIND, a course scratching as it was lame near-fore (tendon), will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

FIERY GAMBADE, which was down 23kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

This race was rescheduled to start at 5:20pm.

ALPHA LEONIS was inconvenienced shortly after the start when racing tight between COLOURLAND CLASSIC and FREEDOM.

FIERY GAMBADE was inconvenienced shortly after the start as a result of JUN TU jumping awkwardly outwards.

Post-race veterinary examinations of VERY FAST and ALPHA LEONIS revealed no obvious abnormality. VERY FAST was impounded.

 GENERAL

APPEAL BY TRAINER KC TIANG WITH REGARDS TO THE RM5,000 FINE IMPOSED BY THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS FOR NEGLIGENCE UNDER MRA RULE 152(5)(a) FOR FAILING TO REPORT TO THE STEWARDS ON HIS CONCERN WITH THE RIDE ON “WONDERFUL WIZARD” IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE RUNNING OF RACE 3 (R326), 1ST DAY, SATURDAY, 22 MARCH 2008, PENANG TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2008

Trainer KC Tiang who lodged an appeal against his RM5,000 fine, applied to withdraw his appeal. After consideration, the Racing Stewards, on 22 April 2008, acceded to his application and his deposit was refunded.

RACE 9 (R498), 4TH DAY, SUNDAY, 27 APRIL 2008, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2008

At the conclusion of an inquiry on 3 May 2008, App M Yusri, the rider of BIG STEEL, in the presence of his Master, Trainer KF Wong, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(c) in that whilst riding BIG STEEL in the above race passing the 600m, he allowed his mount to shift in when he was insufficiently clear of INNER SANCTUM (I Azhar) and in so doing, causing that horse to be checked.

App M Yusri was suspended from riding in races for a period of three race days with effect from 5 May 2008 and to expire on 11 May 2008, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (1:05pm).
