 SELANGOR TURF CLUB
MARCH MEETING
Second Day,  Saturday,  6 March 2016

 RACE 1:  CLASS 5 - 1200M

The start of this race was delayed several minutes when the bridle of RUBICON (R Olechea) became detached on 2 occasions and had to be refitted. Trainer PS Kumaran was advised that the Stewards placed a warning on this horse and he must improve its barrier manners or action may be taken against the gelding.

Upon jumping, RANGITAIKI (App AK Lim) jumped inwards and inconvenienced FLY HIGH (App SU Lim).

Upon jumping, ENGLISH DREAM (App WK Lee) shifted outwards abruptly from the widest barrier and had a tendency to race fiercely in the early stages.

Shortly after the start, NUWA (Lou Ho) shifted outwards and RUBICON moved inwards resulting in DANCE HALL DAYS (M Ganeesh) being checked by its rider.

Approaching the 800m, RANGITAIKI had to momentarily ease off the heels of RED EASTERN (HS Gill).

ENGLISH DREAM was caught racing wide throughout the event.

 RACE 2:  CLASS 5 - 1200M

Shortly after the start, GOLD BREW (SS Vanan) shifted outwards and RAINBOW EASY (App AK Lim) shifted inwards and as a result, HAPPY FAMILY (R Olechea) which was attempting to hold its position between these 2 horses, was tightened for racing room and as a result, clipped the heels of GOLD BREW and blundered resulting in Jockey R Olechea being severely unbalanced for a short distance.

Approaching the 1100m, KIM SALUTE (J Shankar) had a tendency to over-race and had to be eased off the heels of NEW CLASSMATE (C Goon), and approaching the 1000m mark, again was disappointed for a run to the inside of NEW CLASSMATE when making the turn and had to be eased by its rider, losing some ground.

BLACK COFFEE (J De Souza) had a tendency to over-race in the early and middle stages.

Approaching the 150m, GOLD BREW (SS Vanan) shifted in abruptly resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced and having to straighten the gelding.

BIG GALLANT (LL Tai) and IRREPRESSIBLE (App T Krisna) were caught racing wide throughout the race.

The Stewards questioned Jockey C Goon, the rider of NEW CLASSMATE, into the reasons why he took hold of his mount at approximately the 500m and lost some ground. Jockey C Goon explained that he had pressure from the runner to his outside, YES CLUB (App Z Khairil) as it had a tendency to lay inwards. He further explained that NEW CLASSMATE was a horse that did not like to race in restricted racing room and as a result of this incident, lost some ground.

The Stewards, after viewing the official patrol film, informed Jockey C Goon that the Stewards were not fully satisfied with his explanation as in the opinion of the Stewards, as a senior rider, he should have attempted to hold his position rather than to take hold and lose his rightful position. The Stewards gave Jockey C Goon the "benefit of the doubt" on this occasion and took no action, however, advised him of his obligations.

2. Over the final 200m of the event, he allowed DEKATI to shift out and turned his horse’s head outwards when there was a clear run in front and consequently, covering extra ground.

RACE 4 (R311), SATURDAY, 5 MARCH 2016, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2016

The Stewards, on 6 March 2016 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into Jockey M Ganeesh’s ride on SACRED CITY. Evidence was taken from Jockey M Ganeesh, the rider of SACRED CITY.

After viewing the official patrol films of this event and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards acting on their own observations, Jockey M Ganeesh pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that upon jumping, the Stewards believed that he failed to show sufficient vigour to try and ride to his instructions in the early stages, and he elected to take hold of his horse and just sit the horse rather than urging it forward to gain a handy position.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey M Ganeesh’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey M Ganeesh’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two months with effect from 13 March 2016 and to expire on 12 May 2016, both dates inclusive. He was also fined RM10,000/- and advised of his right of appeal (12:50pm).
