APRIL (DERBY) MEETING
Fourth Day,  Sunday,  13 April 2008

 RACE 1:  RESTRICTED MAIDEN - 1100M STR

The Stewards permitted Jockey M Djulkifli to replace Jockey A Fiezan on ZHANG JIANG as the latter did not arrive on course on time. This matter would be investigated further.

GENERAL WIND was slow into stride.

DASHING SPIRIT hung out in the latter stages.

The saddle on SHE’S A DARLING slipped backwards during running.

RAPID CRUSHING, CHINESE KUNG FU, COLOUR ISTANA and SHE’S A DARLING, which raced poorly, will each be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

Jockey BN Shahrul, the rider of CHINESE KUNG FU, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of CHINESE KUNG FU revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that KIM UNCLE and SHE’S A DARLING both returned having cast their off-fore plates.

 RACE 2:  CLASS 5 - 1100M STR

KRIS HIKMAT, which was up 31kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

THOUSAND MILES, a course scratching as it was lame near-fore fetlock, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

KRIS HIKMAT jumped awkwardly inwards and was slow to begin.

 RACE 3:  CLASS 5 - 1400M

KINGDOM POWER and MAS INNI were both slow into stride.

AMAKA and LIM’S WONDER over-raced and were difficult to settle in the back straight.

When questioned regarding the apparent poor performance of ESTABLISH, Trainer A Rahim agreed with the Stewards that the gelding has built up a pattern of inconsistent form. In terms of MRA Rule 117(3), ESTABLISH was suspended from racing for a period of two months and thereafter will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again. Trainer A Rahim was warned that should his horses prove to be inconsistent in future, action may also be taken against him.

 RACE 4:  CLASS 5 - 1400M

BABY RUNNER, which was down 25kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

GREAT PARTNERS and ROYAL COSSACK were both slow into stride.

Passing the 1100m, MANDIRI steadied on the inside of VENUS FLY TRAP which in turn was carried in by PHANTOM ACE (WK Yan). Jockey WK Yan was shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Approaching the 900m mark, MANDIRI again had to steady when HOLD THAT MONEY rolled inwards onto SENOR STEVE. BABY RUNNER and FLASHMAN, which were following, had to steady as a consequence.

In the concluding stages, SENOR STEVE rolled outwards slightly resulting in SENOR STEVE and MANDIRI in racing tight.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that BABY RUNNER returned having cast its off-fore plate. BABY RUNNER, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

An inquiry into the running and handling of GREAT PARTNERS (App Jacky Lim) will be held on a date to be fixed. A post-race veterinary examination of GREAT PARTNERS revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 5:  CLASS 4 - 1400M

MAGICAL IDOL, which was up 15kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

Trainer Evelyn Seet was fined RM250 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for presenting LOVELY GENERAL with an incorrectly fitted gear.

Shortly after the start, YAAKEEN and GOLDEN VICTORY were inconvenienced when tightened on the outside of GLOBAL NOMAD (M Leong) which rolled out. Jockey M Leong was shown the film of the incident and warned that in future he would be expected to make greater attempt to keep his horses straight.

At about the 1100m, ROULETTE PLAYER and VODKA N ICE came together when racing tight.

MAKE NO MISTAKE hung out in the latter stages.

HAPPYSOLUCKY, which hung in badly throughout and was difficult to control, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

App SC Liew, the rider of ROULETTE PLAYER, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of ROULETTE PLAYER revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 6:  CLASS 4 - 1100M STR

The Stewards permitted Jockey S John to replace Jockey E Aslam on RAFTAAR as the latter was still certified unwell.

VERY FAST, which was up 15kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

RED SCENT jumped awkwardly inwards, inconveniencing VERY FAST and COSMIC GENERAL.

DEARLY PRECIOUS shifted both ways in the straight.

NOTHATEASY had a tendency to lay in in the concluding stages.

App SC Liew, the rider of RED SCENT, dropped his whip at about the 350m mark. He was warned that a repetition of dropping the whip in future may lead to a penalty being imposed.

A post-race veterinary examination of DEARLY PRECIOUS revealed no obvious abnormality and returned having cast its off-fore plate. The mare was impounded.

 RACE 7:  PERAK DERBY - 2400M

Emergency acceptor LEADING REQUEST was withdrawn due to a capacity field.

BLAZING BLAIR jumped awkwardly outwards.

CONSTIDAAD began awkwardly, losing several lengths.

FAST FLYING was tightened at approximately the 600m mark when racing tight between TERFEL and GOVERNOR ZANNER.

A post-race veterinary examination of FAST FLYING revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded.

 RACE 8:  MACAU HONG KONG TROPHY

 RACE 9:  DA MA CAI STAKES,  CLASS 2 - 1400M

This race was run in heavy rain and poor visibility.

Due to the underfoot conditions and poor visibility, the Perak Turf Club Racing Stewards have decided to abandon the remaining races for today.

Races 10 - 12 cancelled due to adverse track conditions.

APPEAL BY APPRENTICE JOCKEY THAI YANG SINGH a/l MANGGAL SINGH (APP S THAI YANG) AGAINST THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ DECISION NOT TO GRANT HIM A STAY OF SENTENCE IN RELATION TO THE ONE (1) YEAR DISQUALIFICATION FOR CONTRAVENTION OF MRA RULE 44(8) IMPOSED BY THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS IN CONNECTION WITH HIS RUNNING AND HANDLING OF RACEHORSE “CHECKPOINT CHARLIE” IN RACE 6 (R384), 1ST DAY, SATURDAY, 5 APRIL 2008, PERAK TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2008

On 13 April 2008, the Perak Turf Club Racing Stewards heard App S Thai Yang’s appeal against the Stipendiary Stewards’ decision not to grant him a stay of sentence. After considering submissions from App S Thai Yang, his Master, Trainer KF Coetzee and the Deputy Chief Stipendiary Steward, the Racing Stewards allowed the appeal. App S Thai Yang’s deposit was refunded.

4TH DAY, SUNDAY, 13 APRIL 2008 – CURRENT MEETING

Acting on veterinary advice that JERAM ENERGY was lame near-fore and SILVER COIN was lame off-fore, both horses were withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 4:35pm. JERAM ENERGY and SILVER COIN will each be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.
