Fourth Day,  Sunday,  9 March 2008

 RACE 1:  CLASS 5 - 1100M STR

GOLD N SAKTHI, a course scratching as it was lame near-fore, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

App K Eirwan, the rider of GLORY ROAD, was fined RM250 under MRA Rule 44(2) for failing to arrive on course on time.

The saddle on JET ROCK slipped backwards during running.

Jockey M Djulkifli, the rider of MANY MANY, was shown the film of his ride in this race and despite winning, he was warned of the serious consequences should his horse have been beaten, taking into consideration the manner which it was ridden. He was also warned that in future, he would be expected to ride all his horses with sufficient vigour and determination in future.

Jockey H Barnabas, the rider of CHECKPOINT CHARLIE, Jockey A Cavallo, the rider of LIM’S INFINITY, Jockey YF Leong, the rider of ACE FOX, and Jockey S John, the rider of CONSPIRE, reported that their horses did not act in the going.

 RACE 2:  CLASS 4, DIV 2 - 1400M

SALTIMBANCO, a course scratching as it was suffering from a fever, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

HAN VENTURE, a course scratching as it was suffering from a head injury, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

ROULETTE PLAYER, a course scratching as it was suffering from a loss in condition, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

Emergency acceptor SILVER COIN was withdrawn due to a capacity field.

The Stewards permitted Jockey M Zaidi to be the rider of IT’SMYPASSION, an emergency acceptor.

BIG TURNOUT was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon just prior to the start and was passed fit to race.

GOLD LION jumped awkwardly outwards and inconvenienced BIG TURNOUT.

Approaching the 1000m mark, NICE PLAN, BIG TURNOUT and JOKER DE BEST became cramped and had to steady as a result of JUN SHUI (MW Teh) and AISHITERU (H Barnabas) shifting in. Jockeys MW Teh and H Barnabas were shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

BRILLIANT TYCOON, which was laying out, had to steady off the heels of NICE PLAN at approximately the 700m mark.

A post-race veterinary examination of BIG TURNOUT revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that JOKER DE BEST returned having cast its off-fore plate.

An inquiry into the running and handing of GOLD LION (Jockey I Ismadi) will be held on a date to be fixed.

 RACE 3:  CLASS 4, DIV 3 - 1400M

Emergency acceptors LOVELY GENERAL, RISING, MAIN POWER and HOT EGO were withdrawn due to a capacity field.

BRILLIANT GLORY and PEAK OF LIFE were both slow to begin.

I CARE over-raced and was difficult to settle in the back straight.

At about the 1000m, I CARE steadied off the heels of TOMBOY (A Kumarentheran) which shifted in. BRING IN FORTUNES and BRILLIANT LEGEND, which were following, had to steady in consequence. An inquiry into this incident will be held on a date to be fixed.

BRILLIANT LEGEND dipped at about the 600m.

At about the 300m, JUN TU had to steady when MISS MELANG shifted in from the whip. App KL Lee, the rider of MISS MELANG, was shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Jockey H Samsir, the rider of BRILLIANT LEGEND, was shown the film of his ride in the concluding stages and signed an Admission of Guilt Form for RM1,000 under MRA Rule 44(6) for failing to ride his horse out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

Jockey J Shankar, the rider of OLYMPIC SUN, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of OLYMPIC SUN revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 4:  CLASS 4, DIV 4 - 1400M

Emergency acceptors COSMIC COMMANDER, HOT OR NOT, SELAMAT DATANG, SPEED OF LIGHT and FIRE GENERAL were withdrawn due to a capacity field.

FUTURE FORTUNE was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon just prior to the start and was passed fit to race.

EASTERN FIGHTER was slow into stride.

BAJA KING dipped at the crossing at approximately the 1100m mark.

ASIA STAR had to steady at about the 1000m when LAW AND ORDER ducked in abruptly.

CELESTIAL MUSIC laid in in the concluding stages. Jockey A Fiezan, the rider of CELESTIAL MUSIC, was shown the film of his ride in the home straight and was advised that he would be expected under similar circumstances to change his whip back to his right hand. A post-race veterinary examination of CELESTIAL MUSIC revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey H Samsir, the rider of FUTURE FORTUNE, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of FUTURE FORTUNE revealed no obvious abnormality.

A post-race veterinary examination of LAW AND ORDER revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of ASIA STAR today as compared to its previous run on 17 February 2008, Trainer SB Tan explained that today, ASIA STAR had a good barrier, coupled with the distance and the going, this in his opinion, accounted for the improvement. His explanation was noted.

 RACE 5:  CLASS 3, DIV 1 - 1200M

FIGHTER JET, a course scratching as it was suffering from a fever, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

JERAM JAMES was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon just prior to the start, was reported to have a broken incisor tooth on the lower jaws and was passed fit to race.

BIG ZOOM reared on jumping and was slow to begin.

INSTANT RESULT and ROYAL PRIDE were slow into stride.

Passing the 400m mark, DIPANG RIVER switched out to obtain a clear run.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that IRISH HAPPINESS which bled for the 3rd consecutive time, will be permanently banned from racing under MRA Rule 92(7).

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that MY HURRICANE bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b).

A post-race veterinary examination of JERAM JAMES revealed no obvious abnormality. An inquiry into the running and handling of JERAM JAMES (Y Aify) will be held on a date to be fixed.

 RACE 6:  DA MA CAI STAKES,   CLASS 4, DV 1 - 1400M

HEART TO HARD, a course scratching as it was suffering from a loss of condition, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

Emergency acceptors SETIA, KIM HUNG, KIKO’S DE ARMADA and KYBER PEAK were withdrawn due to a capacity field.

GLORY KINGDOM was slow to begin.

At about the 300m, BEST WRESTLER was held up momentarily and had to steady inwards off the heels of JUN MU.

The state of track was upgraded to “Yielding” after the running of this race.

 RACE 7:  CLASS 5, DIV 1 - 1400M

FLASHMAN, a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised near-fore fetlock, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

Emergency acceptors HIGH FIVE, FONDA, HOLD THAT MONEY and DESERT COMMAND were withdrawn due to a capacity field.

ZHEN GONG which broke through the barrier, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to race.

WUNDERBAR which kicked the barrier, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to race.

COME NEAR ME and CONVINCE were slow into stride.

WUNDERBAR which was drawn wide, had difficulty negotiating the bend at about the 1200m.

At about the 250m, DYNASTY SUPER had to check when FANTASTIC FORTUNE (A Kumar) shifted out. An inquiry into this incident will be held on a date to be fixed.

The saddle on COME NEAR ME slipped backwards during running. Jockey WK Yan, the rider of COME NEAR ME, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of COME NEAR ME revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey H Samsir, the rider of JOKER WONDER, reported that his horse was not striding out freely.A post-race veterinary examination of JOKER WONDER revealed no obvious abnormality.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, Jockey R Woodworth, the rider of DYNASTY SUPER, pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) in that after having been dislodged from his mount at the end of the shoot at the entrance to the track, he kicked his mount in the stomach. Jockey R Woodworth was fined RM5,000 and was advised of his right of appeal (5:50pm).

 RACE 8:  CLASS 3, DIV 2 - 1200M

Emergency acceptor SPECIAL SURPRISE was withdrawn due to a capacity field.

DASHING HERO, which was up 23kgs in body weight, DIPANG RANGER, which was up 18kgs in body weight, GLOBAL NOMAD, which was up 16kgs in body weight, WESTERN CONQUEROR, which was up 15kgs in body weight, GOLD SWEEP, which was up 19kgs in body weight, and WINDFALL, which was up 15kgs in body weight since their last runs, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

JERAM CHALLENGE was baulked for a run on several occasions in the straight.

At about the 150m, GLOBAL NOMAD ran up to and steadied off the heels of NORTHWIND.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that NORTHWIND returned having cast its off-hind plate and with a cut into off-hind.

An inquiry into the running and handling of JAZZMINT DELIGHT (A Kumar) will be held on a date to be fixed.

 RACE 9:  CLASSES 4 & 5 - 1800M

Emergency acceptors PERUGINO POWER, WU JIN, BIG STEEL and INNER SANCTUM were withdrawn due to a capacity field.

Jockey M Leong, the rider of POWER OF LIFE, was shown the film of his ride in the concluding stages and signed an Admission of Guilt Form for RM1,000 under MRA Rule 44(6) for failing to ride his horse out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

 RACE 10:  DA MA CAI STAKES,   CLASSES 3 & 4 - 1800M

ERKE, which was up 17kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

Acting on veterinary advice that MONEY BIN was lame off-fore, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 3:49pm. The gelding will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

Rounding the turn at approximately the 1600m mark, RISING WONDER rolled outwards slightly, carrying PANDORA outwards which in turn carried ERKE outwards onto the heels of MOURINHO. In this incident, ERKE clipped the heels of MOURINHO and stumbled. CONSTIDAAD and NORTHERN MUSIC, which were following, had to take evasive action.

An inquiry into the running and handling of POWER OF NINE (Jockey A Kumar) will be held on a date to be fixed.

 RACE 11:  CLASS 5, DIV 2 - 1400M

Emergency acceptors RHYTHM EXPRESS, YI QI, DUTY FREE SPIRIT, WINGS OF HONOR and MAGIC SAPPHIRE were withdrawn due to a capacity field.

The Stewards permitted Jockey M Leong to replace Jockey A Fiezan on SOVEREIGN EXPRESS as the latter was stood down by the Club Medical Officer.

At approximately the 200m mark, HIDALGO which was laying out, ducked outwards abruptly, dislodging Jockey A Cavallo. Jockey A Cavallo was exempted from the weighing in.

Jockey MW Teh, the rider of BIG CAPACITY, broke his whip during running.

A post-race veterinary examination of WONDERFUL KID revealed no obvious abnormality and returned having cast its off-hind plate.

 RACE 12:  CLASS 4, DIV 5 - 1400M

Emergency acceptors DIAMOND N ACE, YAAKEEN, BATTLE GENERAL, TIME TO WIN and HURRICANE BORNEO were withdrawn due to a capacity field.

The Stewards granted permission for Jockey M Djulkifli to replace Jockey Kelvin Oh as the rider of CUTTING EDGE as the latter was unable to make the carded weight. Jockey Kelvin Oh was fined RM500 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a).

As there were no other suitable riders available, the Stewards permitted Jockey M Zaidi to replace Jockey A Cavallo on MAS DANCER and App Lou Ho to replace Jockey A Kumarentheran on HAPPYSOLUCKY as the both jockeys were stood down by the Club Medical Officer.

MASTER JIANGMEN was slow into stride.

CUTTING EDGE steadied at approximately the 700m mark as a result of MASTER JIANGMEN drifting outwards.

Passing the 150m mark, MASTER JIANGMEN steadied inwards over the heels of ROYAL BEAUTY.

Jockey M Djulkifli, the rider of CUTTING EDGE, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of CUTTING EDGE revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that JUN JIN returned having cast its off-hind plate.

 RACE 13:  CLASS 5 - 1800M

Emergency acceptors HURRICANE SILENCE, TRINIDAD and TIGER IN THE HUNT were withdrawn due to a capacity field.

The Stewards permitted Jockey Y Aify to replace Jockey I Ismadi on MIRACLE POWER as the latter was stood down by the Club Medical Officer.

As there was no other suitable rider available, the Stewards permitted Jockey D Chong to replace App C Goon on CORDERO as the latter was stood down by the Club Medical Officer.

GOOD PROSPECT, which was up 17kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

MACA jumped awkwardly inwards.

DIN KIM MA over-raced in the early and middle stages.

The saddle on SOVEREIGN COMMAND slipped backwards during running.

MIGHTY RULER, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

Jockey YF Leong, the rider of DIN KIM MA, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of DIN KIM MA revealed no obvious abnormality.

App S Sandana, the rider of CELEBRATION, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of CELEBRATION revealed that it was lame off-fore and as such will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of SUNSHINE SUNBRIGHT revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded.

 RACE 14:  CLASS 5, DIV 3 - 1400M

Emergency acceptor DIAMOND MELANG was withdrawn due to a capacity field.

As there was no other suitable rider available, the Stewards permitted App SC Liew to replace Jockey A Kumarentheran on KINGS TOWER.

The Stewards permitted Jockey Y Aify to replace Jockey A Cavallo on LION CITY GLORY.

Light rain fell during the running of this race.

HAPPY COMBINATION was slow into stride.

HAPPY COMBINATION and CARRY ON HERO hung out in the straight.

App S Sandana, the rider of SILVER EXPRESS, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of SILVER EXPRESS revealed that it returned with entrapped epiglottis, and as such will be required to undergo corrective surgery and thereafter pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

All riders returned to scale an average of 1/2kg overweight due to the adverse weather conditions.

 GENERAL

INQUIRY INTO A REPORT RELATING TO A POST RACE URINE SAMPLE CODED “10099” WHICH WAS REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM “ASIAN TENACITY” WHICH RACED AND FINISHED IN 12TH PLACE IN RACE 3 (R1256), 2ND DAY, SUNDAY, 18 NOVEMBER 2007, PERAK TURF CLUB NOVEMBER MEETING 2007

At the conclusion of an inquiry on 3 March 2008 and after taking evidence from Dr Alistair Murdoch, the Senior Veterinary Surgeon of the Perak Turf Club, Dr Reza Singam, the Veterinary Surgeon of the Perak Turf Club and Prof Dr Tan Soo Choon, the Chief Analyst, Usains Holding Sdn Bhd, Trainer Tony Yeoh pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 134(6)(a) as read with MRA Rule 136(13) in that he was the trainer and person responsible for racing the horse ASIAN TENACITY which raced and finished in 12th place in the above race and its post race urine sample subsequently returned positive to “Acepromazine”, a prohibited substance under MRA Rules.

In deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the type of drug, the nature of the drug involved, Trainer Yeoh’s guilty plea and his previous clean record, Trainer Yeoh was fined RM25,000 and was advised of his right of appeal (12:15pm).

In addition, in terms of MRA Rule 134(11), ASIAN TENACITY was disqualified from the race.

PERAK TURF CLUB OFFICIAL BARRIER TEST, TUESDAY, 4 MARCH 2008

SCREAMING BUY (X70), which bled during the above Official Barrier Test (Bleeder’s Test), will be barred from racing for a period of six months under MRA Rule 92(5)(a)&(b).

INQUIRY INTO THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING MR DUNAL FEERAZ BIN MOHAMMAD SHAARI BEING ALLOWED TO ENTER AND WORK IN TRAINER P PEREIRA’S STABLE AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB WHEN HE WAS NOT IN POSSESSION OF A VALID MRA PASS

At the conclusion of an inquiry on 4 March 2008, Trainer P Pereira pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 39(1)(e) in that he, as the Trainer, allowed Mr Dunal Feeraz Bin Mohammed Shaari to enter and work in his stable at the Selangor Turf Club when he was not in possession of a valid MRA pass.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Trainer Pereira’s previous clean record, Trainer Pereira was fined RM2,000 and was advised of his right of appeal (1:15pm).

APPEAL BY JOCKEY CHENG KE TEN (KT CHENG) AGAINST THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ DECISION NOT TO GRANT HIM A STAY OF SENTENCE IN RELATION TO THE ONE YEAR DISQUALIFICATION FOR CONTRAVENTION OF MRA RULE 44(8) IMPOSED BY THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS IN CONNECTION WITH HIS RUNNING AND HANDLING OF RACEHORSE “ISLAND STAR” IN RACE 3 (R101), 1ST DAY, SATURDAY, 26 JANUARY 2008, PENANG TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2008

On 6 March 2008, the Penang Turf Club Racing Stewards heard Jockey KT Cheng’s appeal against the Stipendiary Stewards’ decision not to grant him a stay of sentence. After considering submissions from Jockey KT Cheng and the Chief Stipendiary Steward, the Racing Stewards dismissed the appeal and Jockey KT Cheng’s deposit was forfeited.

The report dated 6 March 2008 (V08/13) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 6 coded urine samples from the above-mentioned race meeting were received on 3 March 2008, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.
