APRIL (DERBY) MEETING
First Day,  Sunday,  5 April 2008

 RACE 1:  MAIDEN - 1100M STR

NUCLEAR ICE, which was down 17kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

DESERT COMMAND which was restless in the barrier, jumped awkwardly outwards and was slow to begin.

At about the 350m mark, DESERT COMMAND switched inwards to obtain a clear run.

App Farick Tan, the rider of NUCLEAR ICE, was shown the film of his ride in the concluding stages and was warned that he would be expected to ride all his horses out fully to the finish, failing which action may be taken against him.

JERAM FORTUNE, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

 RACE 2:  CLASS 5 - 1600M

The Stewards permitted Jockey M Suhaimi to replace Jockey N Azman on QUEENARDO as the latter was certified unwell.

GOOD PROSPECT jumped awkwardly at the start.

ALL ALONE was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.

HURRICANE SILENCE hung in in the straight.

GLOBALLY FAMOUS shifted in from the whip on a few occasions in the home straight.

Jockey H Samsir, the rider of JOKER WARRIOR, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of JOKER WARRIOR revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

App S Sandana, the rider of TINKER BELL, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of TINKER BELL revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 3:  CLASS 5 - 1600M

Trainer PK Leong was fined RM2,000 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) as read with MRA Regulation 20 for failing to have MIRACLE POWER vaccinated in accordance with the MRA Regulations. MIRACLE POWER was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 12:35pm.

WU JIN and PHANTOM ACE were both slow into stride.

Passing the 1000m mark, WU JIN had to steady when racing tight on the inside of SILENT TAKEOVER.

At approximately the 800m mark, PHANTOM ACE brushed the inside running rail.

PRINCE GREG shifted in from the whip at the top of the straight.

CONGENIC, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

Jockey WK Yan, the rider of RAGS TO RICHES, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of RAGS TO RICHES revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again. The gelding was impounded.

A post-race veterinary examination of DIAMOND JOY revealed no obvious abnormality.

The state of srack was upgraded to “Yielding” after the running of this race.

 RACE 4:  CLASS 5 - 1200M

AROWANA CLASSIC, which was up 18kgs in body weight, and JERAM MAS, which was up 15kgs in body weight since their last runs, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

DANGEROUS MAN, which stood and was considerably slow to begin, will be required to pass a test (starting stall) before being entered to race again.

JERAM MAS jumped awkwardly outwards and bumped DAFU onto RHYTHM EXPRESS.

GREAT PARTNERS over-raced in the back straight.

AROWANA CLASSIC was obliged to race wide on the turn.

Passing the 500m, SUPERB STAR steadied off the heels of SEIZES, then shifted outwards and inconvenienced RHYTHM EXPRESS.

RANA’S MUSIC and DUTY FREE SPIRIT both hung out in the home straight.

Jockey V Sivan, the rider of SUPERB STAR, was shown the film of his ride over the concluding stages and signed an Admission of Guilt Form for RM1,000 in terms of MRA Rule 41(6) for using his whip in an excessive manner on his mount.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that DAFU bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b).

SEIZES raced in incorrect colours. Trainer KH Ng, Jockey J Shankar and the Clerk of Scales were all warned that they would be expected to be more alert in future, failing which action may be taken against them.

 RACE 5:  DA MA CAI STAKES,  CLASS 4 - 1600M

OYSTER BAY, a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised off-fore foot, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

KYBER PEAK, which could not be boxed, was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 3:34pm. In view of its previous history, KYBER PEAK will be required to pass 2 tests (2 starting stalls at weekly intervals) before being entered to race again.

MINNERI was slow into stride.

MIDNIGHT REEF over-raced and was difficult to settle in the back straight.

Approaching the 1000m mark, NORTHERN MUSIC steadied when tightened between ESTEEM and MINNERI which rolled outwards.

Passing the 1000m mark, MINNERI had to steady when tightened by ESTEEM which shifted in slightly.

At approximately the 900m mark, MASTER JIANGMEN was crowded and had to steady when racing tight on the inside of MINNERI which rolled inwards slightly. Shortly thereafter, MASTER JIANGMEN rolled outwards, resulting in FIRST DEFENCE having to take evasive action, carrying NORTHERN MUSIC and LANGSTON wide.

GOOD NATURE hung in in the straight.

The saddle on MASTER JIANGMEN slipped backwards during running.

A post-race veterinary examination of NORTHERN MUSIC revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 6:  CLASS 5 - 1200M

CASH PARTNERS, which was up 18kgs in body weight, MAXWAY, which was up 15kgs in body weight, and JERAM NEW POWER, which was up 36kgs in body weight since their last runs, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

CHECKPOINT CHARLIE jumped awkwardly inwards.

COME NEAR ME jumped awkwardly outwards and was slow to begin.

BOOMER CAPITAL jumped awkwardly outwards, crowding SUPERB GENIUS onto MAXWAY.

Shortly after the start, CASH PARTNERS (BN Shahrul) became cramped and had to check off the heels of SHANGHAI SAM (A Cavallo) which rolled inward after receiving pressure from JERAM NEW POWER (App LL Tai). After taking evidence from App LL Tai, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer F Maynard, and Jockey A Cavallo, the Stewards decided to take no further action other than to warn App LL Tai to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

JERAM NEW POWER shifted out under the whip in the straight.

Jockey WK Yan, the rider of COME NEAR ME, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of COME NEAR ME revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey L Sofhan, the rider of MAXWAY, reported that his horse showed no interest in the race. A post-race veterinary examination of MAXWAY revealed no obvious abnormality.

A post-race veterinary examination of CHECKPOINT CHARLIE revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded. An inquiry into the running and handling of CHECKPOINT CHARLIE (App S Thai Yang) will be held on a date to be fixed.

A post-race veterinary examination of NICE CAT revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 7:  CLASS 4 - 1200M

SUNSHINE BEAUTY, which was up 20kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

FANTASTIC MIND, which could not be boxed, was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 4:52pm. The gelding will be required to pass a test (starting stall) before being entered to race again.

HOT EGO jumped awkwardly outwards and was slow into stride.

BRILLIANT LEGEND was slow into stride.

FIRE AND DESIRE had a tendency to shift in from the whip in the straight.

Jockey H Samsir, the rider of BRILLIANT LEGEND, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of BRILLIANT LEGEND revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 8:  CLASS 4 - 1200M

MAHARAJAH, a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised off-fore fetlock, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Trainer C Robert was fined RM100 under MRA Rule 65(5)(b) for failing to produce the declared colours for ROYAL MUSIC.

VODKA N ICE, which was restless in the barrier, jumped awkwardly, throwing its head up and was slow to begin.

BATTLE GENERAL threw its head up at the start, striking Jockey TM Wan’s face, resulting in it being slow into stride.

COSMIC COMMANDER jumped awkwardly outwards, crowding SUCCESS FOREVER onto MISS MELANG which in turn made contact with BEST WRESTLER.

At approximately the 700m mark, IT’S A GIFT became cramped and had to steady off the heels of BEST WRESTLER which had been carried out by COSMIC COMMANDER.

When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of ABRAHAM, Trainer KF Coetzee stated that this gelding appreciated the going today, coupled with the fact that it had a 4kg claiming Apprentice on it. This, in his opinion, had accounted for the improvement. His explanation was noted.

App S Thai Yang who rode his 10th winner on ABRAHAM in this race, would only be entitled to claim 3kgs allowance as from Monday, 7 April 2008.

 RACE 9:  CLASS 2 - 1200M

BIG CROWN, a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised near-fore suspensory, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

STORM EXPRESS, a course scratching as it was suffering from a fever, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

MAHAU, which was up 25kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

LABU LABU, which broke through the barrier, was caught, checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and was reboxed.

Acting on veterinary advice that ULTIMATE GLAMOUR was acting abnormally and was bleeding from its mouth, the gelding was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 5:59pm. The gelding was impounded.

STRONGER jumped awkwardly and was slow into stride.

At about the 1100m, DUCHESS OF MARL steadied when racing tight on the inside of JERAM CHALLENGE.

MAHAU had a tendency to lay in from the whip in the straight.

The saddle on JAZZMINT DELIGHT slipped forward during the race, resulting in Jockey V Sivan being dislodged in the pull-up.

Jockey D Chong, the rider of DUCHESS OF MARL, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of DUCHESS OF MARL revealed that it was lame near-fore and as such will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

 GENERAL

AMENDMENT
RACE 3 (R358), 3RD DAY, SATURDAY, 29 MARCH 2008, PENANG TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2008

Jockey A Fiezan was shown the film and warned that he would be expected to make more attempt to keep his horses on a straight course in future particularly when using the whip.

AMENDMENT
RACE 4 (R366), 4TH DAY, SUNDAY, 30 MARCH 2008, PENANG TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2008


BABY RUNNER, a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised sole off-fore foot, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

INQUIRY INTO THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING MR VELOO A/L KANNIAH BEING ALLOWED TO ENTER AND WORK IN TRAINER JOHNNY LIM BOON THONG’S (TRAINER BT LIM) STABLE AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB WHEN HE WAS NOT IN POSSESSION OF A VALID MRA PASS

Trainer BT Lim subsequently exercised his right of appeal against his fine of RM2,000 on 27 March 2008. The appeal will be held on a date to be fixed.

PERAK TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2008

Trainer JB Brogan was fined RM200 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for nominating COLONIAL RIDER to race in the Perak April Derby Meeting 2008 when it was ineligible for entry.

Trainer P Tennent was fined RM200 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for nominating FASHIONABLY LATE to race in the Perak April Derby Meeting 2008 when it was ineligible for entry.

POST-RACE URINE: 20 MARCH 2008
SELANGOR MARCH PRO-AM MEETING 2008


The report dated 3 April 2008 (V08/16.1) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 33 coded urine and 33 sets of coded blood samples from the above-mentioned race meeting were received on 21 March 2008, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.

POST-RACE URINE: 22 – 23 MARCH 2008
PENANG MARCH MEETING 2008


The report dated 3 April 2008 (V08/18.1) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 47 coded urine and 47 of coded blood samples from the above-mentioned race meeting were received on 24 March 2008, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.
