 RACE 1:  MAIDEN - 1100M STR

The Stewards permitted Jockey M Wepner to replace Jockey L Sofhan on JERAM FASHION as the latter was certified unwell.

The brand number for LORD OCTAGON should read “M123” and not as printed (printing error).

Jockey WK Yan was fined RM500 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) as he was unable to make the carded weight and rode FIRST OF MAY 1kg overweight with the permission of the Stewards as there was no other rider available at that weight.

Jockey H Barnabas and Trainer KF Coetzee were questioned with regards to Jockey Barnabas’ ride on I CARE. Jockey Barnabas stated that he tried to get the horse covered in the early stages as instructed but this horse had a high head carriage, continually threw its head up and was very green. Trainer KF Coetzee stated that I CARE worked in running reins, has an extremely high head carriage and is very difficult to settle. In hindsight, he felt that he should have instructed the jockey to let the horse stride rather than to seek cover. Their explanations were noted.

 RACE 2:  CLASS 5, DIV 3 - 1100M STR

NEVER GIVE UP, a course scratching as it was lame off-fore, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being entered to race again.

At the conclusion of an inquiry on today, Jockey R Burnett, the rider of ROYAL BEAUTY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(c) in that whilst riding ROYAL BEAUTY in this race, at about the 1100m, he shifted in when insufficiently clear of EASTERN ACE resulting in that horse having to be tightened for galloping room and had to be taken in onto KIKO’S DE ARMADA which also had to be checked and both horses lost considerable ground. Jockey Burnett was suspended from riding in races for a period of four race days with effect from 3 March 2008 and to expire on 15 March 2008, both days inclusive. A post-race veterinary examination of SUCCESS GIFTED revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded.

When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of BREAK THE BANK, Trainer KL Chong stated that he was surprised with the win as the gelding had no recent form. However, he said that he had eased up on its trackwork and as such the gelding raced fresh today. His explanation was noted and his attention was drawn to the Rules regarding “in-and-out running”.

 RACE 7:  DA MA CAI STAKES,  CLASS 4, DIV 1 - 1600M

App SC Liew was shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Jockey H Samsir, the rider of JOKER TENACITY, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of JOKER TENACITY revealed no obvious abnormality.
