Easy first-up win for Lim's Kosciuszko

LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO returned to racing for his first start of the season and promptly picked up where he left off in the Kranji Stakes A event over 1200m on the polytrack at Kranji here today.

The Singapore champion galloper last raced in Singapore in the Gold Cup last November when he carved out a narrow win over 2000m.

After another failed bid in Hong Kong in December, the son of Kermadec was rested and returned to training with two trials in the last few weeks.

Although he's far from his best conditions, LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO left no doubt as to who's the king of Kranji when came from just off the pace to win easily by 1 1/2 lengths.

"That was terrific after what he had been through," said trainer Dan Meagher.

"He (LIM’S KOSCIUSZKO) weighed in at 485kgs today and that’s the heaviest (weight) he has ever raced at.

"So we knew he wasn’t near his best fitness-wise and as I said before the race; win, lose or draw, we just wanted him to get through the race okay as he will benefit from the run regardless.

"Marc rode him perfectly. I didn’t give him any instructions except to stay out of the deep sand (on the inside) and he (Lerner) was never going to hurt him.

"A couple of smacks (whips) kept his mind on the job and he won so well."
