Second Enrich Stakes A win for Teochew Kid

After back-to-back wins in Class 4 in the early part of last year, TEOCHEW KID was given a four-month break before being pitted against the best in the land.

It was a huge jump for the son of Snitzel who had a win and two placings in 10 starts at three and four in Australia before landing in Malaysia in 2020.

It took a whole year for TEOCHEW KID to make his local debut but his double showed that he has the potential to mix it up with the best.

A first-up third in an Enrich Stakes A race from spell was followed by a win in a similar race against three rivals in Ipoh last September.

Next stop was the Coronation Cup (1600m) where he finished seventh. But TEOCHEW KID improved significantly to ran third to GOOD FIGHT in the Charity Cup (1400m) in his next outing.

TEOCHEW KID was unplaced in three subsequent runs, including the Penang Gold Cup (2000m) last December.

As with last September, TOECHEW KID was involved in another four-horse race, also an Enrich Stakes A contest, here today after two horses were scratched on race day.

Ridden by How Yang who rode him for the first time last time out, TEOCHEW KID stayed in the rear of the pack till the straight. SKYLIGHT, who led from the start, kicked clear at the 200m and was headed for an easy win when TEOCHEW KID began to close the gap rapidly from the 150m.

TEOCHEW KID got up in the last couple of strides to beat SKYLIGHT by a short head.
