Henrique gets the big Prize in double win

After managing three placings in seven rides last week, Carlos Henrique went on the double at Kranji here today, bagging the Group 3 Committee's Prize in the process.

The Brazilian was off the mark in the first race today with a hard-fought win on SANTINO, the gelding's first win in three runs.

Later in the day, Henrique was triumphant again in a five-way battle in the Committee's Prize riding BESTSELLER, with less than one length separating the runners at the line.

BEETSELLER ended the 2023 with three consecutive wins, culminating in the Group 3 Colonial Chief Stakes over 1700m on the polytrack.

Henrique took advantage of his barrier 1 position to settle BESTSELLER in a handy third position all the way till the home straight, just behind MR BLACK BACK and PACIFIC EMPEROR.

BESTSELLER found an opening between the two leaders at the 200m but he was amongst a line of six horses battling for the lead. STREET OF DREAMS hit the front momentarily soon after but BESTSELLER charged home on his inside to win by a head.

"I knew he (BESTSELLER) would fight and that was a beautiful thing," said Henrique

"The plan was to use the gate and I had no doubt we would get a good position in running. I knew my horse would take whatever gap there was because that’s his character.

"My only worry was that STREET OF DREAMS was behind me and so were Bruno (DREAM ALLIANCE) and Jaden’s (GOLDEN MONKEY) horses. They were the dangers.

"But once we took the gap, he (BESTSELLER) showed why he was such a good horse. He’s a fighter and wasn’t going to lose once he got his head in front."
