Ghost Mari lands first win of 2024 for trainer

GHOST MARI returned to winning form here today to give trainer Arumugam Palani his first win of the 2024 season.

With just five horses in training, the Charm Spirit gelding was only his 14th runner this year.

GHOST MARI arrived at his yards from New Zealand last year with one placing in two runs at three Down Under.

GHOST MARI made all the running to win an Open Maiden event by 5 1/2 lengths in his second outing in the country last September.

The four-year-old's best effort in six starts since was a fourth to SUPER HAPPY in a Class 3 - 1200m sprint at Sungai Besi two months ago, the run sandwiched between two last place finishes in very small fields.

But the GHOST MARI of old was back in the Class 4 - 1200m sprint today when he led all the way, winning by three lengths.

Another former Kiwi galloper THAILAND CAPTAIN also notched his second win in the country, landing the Class 4 - 1600m handicap by 2 1/2 lengths.

THAILAND CAPTAIN was the first leg of a double for apprentice Syafifie Zailuddin who went on to score on LOOKS GOOD in a hard-fought victory in the Class 5 - 1400m event.
