Two Shanes join training ranks in KL

KUALA LUMPUR:  May 4, 2018

There are two new additions to the training ranks at Sungei Besi this week: Shane Allen Edwards and Shane Keith Ellis.

Edwards is no stranger to the track and Malaysian racing. The former Perth trainer first arrived in Malaysia at the tailend of 2012 and quickly made his mark with several big race wins: REBEL FURY in the Tunku Gold Cup in 2013 and 2014 and the Penang Gold Cup with MONSILI in 2013.

But in 2014 Edwards was disqualified by the racing authorities in Western Australia on several charges and banned three years. The Malayan Racing Association reciprocated the ban.

Edwards won the Perth Cup with GUEST WING in 2011.

Ellis is new to Malaysia but a familiar face across the causeway where he was assistant to nine-time Singapore champion trainer Laurie Laxon for many years.

After Laxon left headed home to New Zealand, Ellis joined trainer Lee Freedman and quit recently in preparation to set up his own stables. He was granted a trainer's licence but it was Selangor Turf Club who granted him stables.
