Spectacular upset by Secret Win first-up

SECRET WIN returned to racing after an eight-month spell to create a big upset in the Class 2 - 1200m handicap at Kranji here tonight.

Winner of one race from three starts in New Zealand, the son of Haradasun rose to prominence when he captured the Group 3 El Dorado Classic over 2200m last October, after winning in Class 4 the previous start.

The following month, SECRET WIN finished mid-field in the Singapore Gold Cup over the same trip and has been sidelined since.

Tackling a trip considered too short for the gelding, SECRET WIN was the second least-backed runner and in his usual running style, settled in the rear and was the last turning for home.

But SECRET WIN picked up the horses in front one by one and nailed stable-mate, the rank outside GOOD NEWS by a nose. He paid $243.

"I honestly didn’t think he could win as he was against horses who looked too good in this Class - for sprinting types that is," said trainer Daniel Meagher. "It's good to see SECRET WIN score first-up as it’s taken a long time to get him back."

There were two other surprises tonight. BERLINETTA broke through for his maiden win in his 18th start to pay $134. MUSCULAR DRAGON recorded his second win in 25 starts to pay $113 in the opening event.
