Lim's Lightning strikes in Golden Horseshoe

Race favourite LIM'S LIGHTNING had to dig deep into his reserve to win the S$325,000 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe at Kranji here tonight.

A runaway four-length winner of the third leg of the Singapore Golden Horseshoe series, the IRT Juvenile Stakes, last month, the Australian gelding had to battle hard to beat GALVARINO by a shot head in the Singapore Group 2 event for two-year-olds.

GALVARINO settled second behind the pacemaker LIM'S DREAM and joined him turning into the straight with AUTUMN ASSAULT making three in a line. LIM'S LIGHTNING was just behind the trio.

LIM'S LIGHTNING charged through between LIM'S DREAM and GALVARINO at the 300m. LIM'S DREAM soon dropped out. LIM'S LIGHTNING and GALVARINO then drew away to fight out the final 200m with the former winning by a short head.

"Big thanks to my staff, my wife Julie of course, and also, (former jockey) Richard Lim who has done a good job on him. He was quite a handful earlier and Richard has spent a lot of time educating him properly," said winning trainer Steven Burridge.

For former Macau-based French jockey Ryan Curatolo, who rode three winners for the evening, it was his first group win in Singapore.

"I’m really delighted with that first Group win in Singapore," he said. "He’s a very good racehorse with a great pedigree and he proved it again today. The last 200m was not as strong as at his last win, but that was because he was not so comfortable on the inside as he is on the outside."

LIM'S LIGHTNING, purchased by his owners for A$35,000 at the Horses In Training Sale, has now two wins and a third from just three starts.
