Former Kuala Lumpur apprentice Lim Aun Kean, who made his move to Singapore a couple of months ago, has notched his first win at Kranji here tonight.

Now indentured to John O'Hara, it was however trainer Steven Burridge who provided him with the breakthrough win on SPIRIT SEVEN in the Class 4 - 1600m handicap.

SPIRIT SEVEN has won three times in Class 5, the last occasion just two starts backs when he was the favourite last month.

Promoted a class, the Australian gelding finished fourth over 1400m last week when he was the rank outsider and partnered by Lim for the first time.

SPIRIT SEVEN appreciated the longer trip this time, coming from well off the pace early to win by 1-3/4 lengths for his fourth win in 34 starts.

"I’ve always wanted to ride in Singapore and it’s great to finally ride my first winner here," said Lim. "It doesn’t matter if that first win didn’t come for Mr O’Hara. I’m sure I will ride a winner for him soon."

Meanwhile, Hong Kong apprentice Matthew Poon, back in Singapore for a short stint during the break in racing back home, quickly got into the winning act, scoring on ENCHANTED MISTER.

Poon made a big impression when he was here on a two-week visit last year as a reward for being the Dux from South Australia under the joint agreement between the Thoroughbred Racing South Australia and the Singapore Turf Club.

Poon rode six winners then and has emerged as the champion apprentice in Hong Kong in their just concluded season.
