Sonny Yeoh leaves on winning note

Sonny Yeoh bowed out of racing in Singapore a winner with his very last runner at Kranji here today, but fellow trainer Laurie Laxon just missed popping the champagne when his last runner found one to beat.

SUPER G, ridden by Michael Rodd, came from a long way back to snatch victory by 1 1/4 lengths in the Class 5 - 1700m handicap on the polytrack.

It was the 94th winner for Yeoh who took over the rein from his brother Dr Yeoh Kheng Chye five years ago. STEPITUP, his first winner in 2012, went on to win all three legs of the Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge the following year.

"My biggest disappointment is my decision to stop training. I wish I could stay longer but I had to go for personal reasons," said Yeoh, who turns 56 next month.

Laxon's last runner LIM'S SHOT went down by half a length to CAORUNN in the Kranji Stakes C - 1200m event. The kiwi also had two other second placings in the afternoon with UNCONQUERED and MARVEL HERO.

But Laxon can still hold his head high despite not leaving on a winning note. He leaves Singapore with a record nine trainer's premiership and more than 1,250 winners in 17 years at Kranji.
