Amirul prevents expatriates sweep

SINGAPORE: Jan 6, 2017

Apprentice Amirul Ismadi, who booted 13 winners in his first season in Singapore last year, prevented a clean sweep of the card by expatriate jockeys when he booted home QUETZAL to win the Class 5 - 1900m handicap on the polytrack at Kranji here tonight.

Amirul, who has proven himself in Malaysia before moving down south, brought the New Zealand gelding from off the pace to win snatch victory by a neck from CHAIRMAN WIND (Gerald Mosse) who has taken the lead at the home bend.

With that Amirul, who was riding the six-year-old for the first time, opened his account for the 2017 season, hoping to better his score in his second year at Kranji.

Mosse, here on a two-month stint, was placed three times, finding one to beat twice, before getting off the mark for the season on SUPERSONICSURPRISE in the final event.
