Alibi wins Stewards' Cup

ALIBI stepped up on a superb second to LIM'S CRUISER in last month's Group 1 Lion City Cup to capture the Group 2 Stewards' Cup at Kranji here today.

The 1400m set-weight event is the first leg of the Singapore Four-Year-Old Challenge with the second leg Patrons' Bowl (1600m) to be run next month and the Derby (2000m) in July.

LIM'S CRUISER and the multiple group winning DEBT COLLECTOR were also today's line-up but could managed only third and fourth respectively.

Instead, it was ALIBI, partnered by Glen Boss, who settled second behind the pacemaker OXBOW SUN before powering to the front to win by half a length.

It was the sixth win in 11 starts for ALIBI who was purchased by his trainer Michael Clements for NZ$90,000 at the Ready To Run sale.

"His prep has just gone great for him. He has come back stronger and more mature as a four-year-old," said Clements of ALIBI, who was having his third start of the season.

"Like I always said, he will go for all three Legs. The mile will not be a problem for him. Obviously, there is always a question mark whether he can get the 2000m, but I think he will be right."
