Twickenham scores thrilling win

TWICKENHAM came back from the jaws of defeat to snatch a thrilling win in the S$200,000 Committee's Prize (1600m) at Kranji here today.

The Australian gelding has four previous attempts in group races, including the Derby and Gold Cup last year, without success.

But thanks to the never-give-up effort by Vlad Duric, TWICKENHAM rallied to beat KIRKS RYKER by a nose after the latter had overtaken him at the 200m in the Group 3 contest.

"I thought we were going to get there, but on the line, we weren’t too sure. It was so exciting when we won!," said trainer Stephen Gray.

"I thought I had lost the race and even turned to Corey and said ‘good on you’, you got me," said Duric. "I know I had a late surge but I thought he might have held on."

TWICKENHAM has now eight wins from 23 starts after being bought for A$115,000 at the Horse In Training Sale.
