Khaw and Nawawi make breakthrough

KUALA LUMPUR: Sep 17, 2016

CHATEAUNEUF DUPAPE bounced back to winning form after 17 months to give apprentice Khaw Choon Kit his maiden win at Sungei Besi here today.

The eight-year-old, trained by Khaw's master Richard Lines, made all the running to win handsomely by 1 1/2 lengths for his sixth win in 51 starts.

CHATEAUNEUF DUPAPE scored back-to-back wins at the beginning of 2015 and had struggled to regain that form since. But he found the perfect partnered in Khaw who was riding him for the first time today.

Jockey Nawawi Ahmad had also plenty of reason to celebrate when he scored a comeback win on THE MILLIONAIRE.

Despite not having greeted the judges since February last year, the seven-year-old started a firm second favourite in the Class 4 - 1400m handicap and made all the running. It was his fourth win in 26 starts.

Nawawi rode five winners in 2012 but has been out in the cold since, even missing action for the whole of 2014.
