Khalid Marzuki lands maiden win

Apprentice Khalid Marzuki lands his maiden win on SILVER WIND

It has taken quite a while, but apprentice Khalid Marzuki has every reason to celebrate at Kranji here today when he finally landed his first winner in his 29th ride.

Indentured to Steven Lam, Khalid was riding the Alwin Kuah-trained SILVER WIND and was the first to jump learfrom his inside barrier.

They were soon joined by the favourite GRIZABELLA MEMORY and they raced stride-for-stride into the home stretch. That's where SILVER WIND found an extra gear and cleared away to win by three-quarter length from MUSCULAR DRAGON who was coming on strongly at the finish.

"I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. I'm so happy," said the son of former jockey Marzuki Sani who also said his dad inspired him to become a jockey.

"At one stage we were both riding trackwork at the same time, but he's retired now and I hope he's proud of me."

SILVER WIND was one the horses Kuah took over when he obtained his A licence on Apr 1. The former jockey, who won with his very first runner SMART FORTUNE on Apr 8, has now saddled three winners.
