Debt Collector bags Singapore Guineas

DEBT COLLECTOR not only proved to be the best three-year-old of the season with his emphatic win in the S$500,000 Singapore Guineas at Kranji here this afternoon, he also gave notice that he will a strong contender for the Derby next year.

The way the son of Thorn Park came from some distance back in the early running to win the Group 1 1600m event indicated that he will be even better over a long trip.

Ridden by Michael Rodd, the New Zealand gelding started favourite in the 14-strong Guineas and beat the front-running INFANTRY by two lengths. It was DEBT COLLECTOR's fourth consecutive win in just seven starts and was purchased by trainer Cliff Brown for NZ$120,000 at the Ready To Run sale.

"His last 400m was just incredible. He's a horse that doesn't excite me in trackwork but I'm really excited now," said Brown who also won the Guineas with CLINT in 2011. "He will go for a break now. Hopefully he will be my Derby horse next year."

"It was a sensational win, especially as he beat a very good bunch," said Rodd who had two group 1 wins last year with STEPITUP (Kranji Mile and Raffles Cup.

DEBT COLLECTOR skipped the first leg of the Singapore Three-Year-Old series, the sprint in March, but has now won both the Classic (1400m) and Guineas.
