Thumping brushes off rivals in Vase

Japanese trainer Hideyuki Takaoka's brilliant ways with mares was demonstrated once again when he sent out THUMPING to victory in the Group 3 Moonbeam Vase (1800m) at Kranji here today.

Coming off a last-start third in the Group 3 Polytrack Mile Championship four weeks ago, the American mare charged home on the inside of the dueling QUECHUA and FLAX to steal victory by a half a length.

It was the first feature race success for Takaoka since the brilliant mare BETTER LIFE won the Singapore Derby in July 2013.

"She (THUMPING) is a good mare but she is nowhere near BETTER LIFE’s class," said Takaoka. "But it’s nice to win a feature race after such a long time and what’s more, it is my first win in the JBBA Moonbeam Vase."

Moonbeam Vase has been sponsored by the Japanese Bloodhorse Breeders’ Association in the last five years.

THUMPING has now seven times in 18 starts and will now be aimed for the Queen Elizabeth II Cup (2000m) in three weeks' time.
