Zulfikri and Yan suspended

Apprentice Mohamad Zulfikri Mohamad Salim and jockey Yan Weng Kuan have been suspended three and two months respectively.

Zulfikri was charged for his ride on ROYAL GREEN in Ipoh last Sunday. The New Zealand gelding finished seventh to ROCKET EXPRESS in a Class 4 - 1400 handicap.

The Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the riding of ROYAL GREEN, ridden by Zulfikri in the above race. Further evidence were taken from Zulfikri in the presence of his master, trainer Richard Lines, and trainer PK Leong, the trainer of ROYAL GREEN.

After taking all evidence into consideration and reviewing the videos, Zulfikri, in the presence of his master, trainer Richard Lines, pleaded guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge was that at approximately the 100m, he failed to take a clear run on the inside of BEYOND WEALTH (App J Daniel) when it was reasonable to do so.

Zulfikri was suspended from riding in races for a period of three months. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred his suspension to take effect from Sunday, Apr 19 to Jul 18, both dates inclusive. In addition, Zulfikri was also fined the sum of RM10,000. He was advised of his right of appeal.

Yan was charged for his ride on CANDY CRUSH in a Class 4 - 1400m handicap in Ipoh last Sunday. The Australian gelding finished fifth to STAR QUALITY.

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the riding of CANDY CRUSH b y Yan in the above race yesterday. Evidence were taken from Yan and trainer Nor Azman, the rider and trainer of CANDY CRUSH respectively.

After taking all evidence into consideration and reviewing the videos, Yan was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge was that from approximately the 1000m to the 400m, he made insufficient effort to improve his position when there was an opportunity to do so as per his riding instructions. Yan was suspended from riding in races for a period of two months from Apr 15 to Jun 14, both dates inclusive. In addition, Yan was also fined the sum of RM10,000. He was advised of his right of appeal.
