Wong Kam Chong steals limelight with treble

Apprentice Wong Kam Chong, who rode 14 winners in his maiden season last year, began the new season in superb manner when he booted home three winners from six rides at his home base here today.

All his winners - STAR QUALITY, BRAVE MALALA and BARKER ROAD KID - were prepared by his master Chong Keng Leong as home based trainer made a clean sweep of the seven races on the card.

Racing in Malaysia entered a new chapter in the new season whereas the three clubs decide individually as to which jockeys and apprentice to issue licences to.

As a result, Jai Shankar, the 2013 champion jockey and runner-up last year, was not in action at Sungei Besi on Jan 1 and yesterday.

Shankar made the most of his chances today, winning once on SCOTT FREE.
