Jimmy Rea is Guineas bound after smart win

JIMMY REA is headed for the Singapore Guineas in two weeks' time after outclassing his opposition to win the Kranji Stakes B - 1200m event at Kranji here today.

Ridden by regular jockey Manoel Nunes, the three-year-old came from well off the pace to win drawing away by two-and-a-quarter lengths in a time of 1min. 9.04secs.

It was his fifth win from seven starts for JIMMY REA who did not run in the first two legs of the Singapore Three-Year-Old series, the Sprint (1200m) and Classic (1400m).

"The mile of the Guineas is a question mark, but we will be taking our chances," said trainer Mark Walker. "It will be a step-up for him, but I believe he is built to be a Guineas horse. He deserves a chance."

BAY OF ISLAND showed that there is plenty of fire left in him when he scored a gutsy win in the Class 5 - 1600m handicap, handing apprentice Dellorto Pregasam a second success since making a comeback under a new master this season.

For 10-year-old BAY OF ISLAND, it was his eighth win in 98 starts dating back to November 2007. The New Zealand gelding endured a series of minor placings since his last win in August 2013.
