Ipoh trainers have waited two months to return to action since they last raced two months ago on Aug 23, but their day of activity on home soil was cut short after just four races today.

The first home-based meeting here since the outbreak of equine influenza was put in doubt by the worsening haze situation in the past week which forced yesterday evening's races in Singapore to be cancelled.

But rain yesterday afternoon and evening improved the situation. The racing stewards met in the morning and deemed that the API reading was within acceptable range suitable for the meeting to proceed.

But heavy rain during the running of Race 4 forced proceedings to be curtailed. After the race, a representation of jockeys lodged a protest against the state of the track and visibility due to the adverse weather condition. After hearing the submissions from the jockeys, trainers and the track manager, the racing stewards after deliberation, acceded to their request and abandoned the remainder of races as they deemed the track to be unsafe.

FIRE GENERAL, who is in his ninth season of campaigning, showed that he can still measure up to his younger rivals with a fighting win in a Class 5 - 1400m handicap. It was the 14th win by the Australian gelding in 105 starts.

Trainer Prakhash Pereira and jockey Martin Wepner combined to win two of the four races that were held.

Both horses arrived from the United States in mid-2012. STREET TEASE, who cost US$30,000 as a yearling, has now won four races in 25 starts while TEN SENSE WIN, a US$17,000 yearling, has seven wins from 25.
