Dragon Fury floors rivals in Saas Fee Stakes

DRAGON FURY prevails in a tight finish in the Saas Fee Stakes

Bang-in-form rider Shafiq Rizuan, who landed a superb hat-trick on Friday night, made the weekend even more memorable by winning the Group 3 S$200,000 Saas Fee Stakes (1400m) astride DRAGON FURY at Kranji here today.

With regular rider Troy See unavailable after his wedding yesterday, Shafiq took the ride on the Sufficient four-year-old for the first time and the partnership prevailed in a blanket finish to win by a neck.

Being his first test in group races, DRAGON FURY paid a handsome $86.

Until a month ago, DRAGON FURY was still racing, and winning, in Class 3. Two weeks ago, he beat all but TWICKENHAM in a Benchmark 83 event and it was gamble by trainer Alwin Tan to pit him against some well-performed horses in today's event.

"I’m very surprised he won," said Tan. "But I think a large part of the success has to go to Shafiq. He handled the horse very well."

DRAGON FURY had now won five of 18 starts.
