Clubs to issue jockey licences from 2015

SINGAPORE:  Sep 15, 2014

In a major development for the Malayan Racing Association (MRA) from Jan 1 onwards, the MRA will no longer issue licences to professional jockeys and apprentice jockeys.

Instead, the authority to issue licences to both professional jockeys and apprentices jockeys will be delegated to the four associated clubs.

"Jockeys can only ride at the clubs that have issued them licences. The licence period granted will be at the discretion of the clubs," the MRA said in a statement.

This means that a jockey who wish to ride at all the four clubs will have to make four applications to do so and may not be granted all four licences.
