Double keeps Laurie Laxon clear at the top

A late double with ALFONSO and TO BE REMEMBERED brought Laurie Laxon's tally to 51 for the season, strengthening his quest for a ninth trainer's title in Singapore.

His double keeps him four clear of second-placed Alwin Tan.

ALFONSO, who did not race until he was four in New Zealand, won a maiden event from just two starts before he was flown to Singapore where he has now won twice, both Benchmark 83 events, from eight outings.

After his initial win at Kranji, ALFONSO was pitted against the cream of four-year-olds in the Emirates Singapore Derby but finished down the field.

A drop in company saw him finish third last time out behind WARTIME on the polytrack, his first attempt on the surface.

Back to racing on the turf today, ALFONSO sat second till the home straight before winning by three-quarter of a length, denying newcomer QUECHUA a first-up success.

TO BE REMEMBERED had to dig deep to beat last-start winner SPUN GOLD for his fourth win in 31 starts.
