Fortune smiles on Cash Luck again in Vase

CASH LUCK, who upset some big names including STEPITUP and SUPER NINETYSEVEN to win the Group 1 Kranji Mile last October, has again outdone the two big stars in the S$200,000 BBA Moonbeam Vase over 1800m at Kranji here today.

SUPER NIENTYSEVEN, winner of the Group 3 Committee's Prize and Group 1 Raffles Cup who also finished fourth in the Singapore Gold Cup last year, started odds-on in the Group 3 event while last season's champion three-year-old STEPITUP was the firm second favourite.

But the slow pace of the race played into the hands of CASH LUCK, whose rider John Powell was able to quickly settle him down in second spot before taking the lead round the home bend to win easily by one and a quarter lengths. SUPER NINETYSEVEN beat STEPITUP for second.

CASH LUCK, who gave trainer David Kok his first group win last October with his victory in the Kranji Mile, will now be aimed for the Queen Elizabeth II Cup later this month, with the Singapore Airlines International Cup also on his radar.

CASH LUCK, who cost just A$12,000 as a yearling, has now eight wins and five placings from 30 starts in Singapore.
