Nine trainers' licences renewed

KUALA LUMPUR,  4 April 2007

Nine trainers who were issued three-month licences at the start of the season can continue training until the end of the season. All their licences, which expired on March 31, have been renewed.

The nine include the president of the West Malaysia Racehorse Trainers Association K M Noordin. The others are Terry Tan, Osman Sidek, Wong Kong Fatt, Lionel Lee, Tony Yeoh. Stephen Cook, Gary van Breukelen and Abdul Rahim.

Osman and Wong, it was reported, were given the extension despite not meeting the requirement of MRA Rule 230 which stipulates that a trainer to have at least 20 horses in their care over a period of time.

Tan's licence was renewed subject to his appeal against a one-year disqualification under MRA Rules 53(b)(i).
