Jockey Cheng disqualified nine months

IPOH,  13 January 2007

Jockey Cheng Ke Ten has been disqualified nine months for a positive urine test taken on Dec 25 last year.

On Jan 8, the Stewards conducted an inquiry into a report that a urine sample taken from him during the Perak Turf Club Pro-Am Meeting that day, on analysis, revealed the presence of “Benzodiazepine (Nimetazepam)”, a prohibited substance under MRA Regulation 46.2.

Evidence was taken from Cheng and after considering all the evidence, Cheng pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 204(3)(ii) and was suspended from riding in races for a period of nine months with immediate effect, backdated to Dec 25, 2006 and to expire on Sept 24 this year, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
