John Powell replaces Eddie Wilkinson

SINGAPORE,  19 April 2005

Australian jockey John Powell returns to Singapore this week after being granted a six-month Visiting Jockeys’ permit by the Singapore Turf Club.

Powell, 35, answered a call from trainer Don Baertschiger to replace regular stable jockey Eddie Wilkinson who relinquished his MRA licence this week due to a reoccurrence of an injury after a recent fall.

Most recently licensed by Queensland Racing, Powell has ridden predominantly in Australia with international stints in Singapore, Malaysia and Mauritius. In a career spanning 20 years, he has ridden over 900 winners and finished 5th in the Queensland Metropolitan Jockeys’ premiership in the 2002/2003 season.

Powell, sponsored by Baertschiger, has been granted a six-month licence from 22 April 2005 and goes to scale at 53kgs.
